Congolese musician Simaro Massiya Lutumba dies in Paris

Legendary Congolese musician Simaro Massiya Lutumba died early Saturday at a hospital in Paris, France.

His fellow musicians Nyboma Mwandido and Sam Mangwana confirmed his death in phone interviews with the Nation.

Mr Lutumba was born in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo on March 19, 1938.

He specialised in Soukous, wrote songs, played the guitar and led a band in the DRC.

The cause of Mr Lutumba’s death was not immediately clear but he had been suffering from diabetes and hypertension.

Brother of Rosa Mutange, Martha Ebacha, Daniel Mugera, Susana Kaviti and Zablon Kisuza, (all deceased). Father of the late Peter Lugonzo, Bonny Bwosi, Jane Afandi, Vivienne Afandi and Michael Mugoyia. Father in law of Eudline, Florence, the late Dr. Ayieko, Joab and Esther. Grandfather of Cyprian, Antony, Euphresher, Edwin, Anne, Brenda, Shyler, Gaudencia, Valentine, Redempta, Iminza, Edgar, Juliana, John-Mark, Bahati, Keesha and Michelle.

The cortege will arrive on the 4th of April 2019 at his home in Gisambai.

The funeral Service in celebration of his life will take place on 6th April 2019 in Gisambai Village, Vihiga.

He is father of Steve Kimata (Kahawa Sukari, Nairobi), James Kariuki (Tigoni Hospital Limuru), Nelson Mwangi (Public Health Office Karatina), Esther Wangari (Chinga), Jane Muthoni (Kamahuha) and Sarah Wanjiku (Kamahuha). He is father in law of Gladys Mumbi (Ofafa Jericho), Agnes Wanjiru (Tigoni Primary), Joseph Njoroge (Kamahuha) and Kanyungu (Chinga). He is brother of Nelson Mwangi, Prisca Wambere, the late Grace Wanjiru, the late Joshua Tatua, Beatrice Wairimu, Eunice Waitima and Agnes Wakarindi.

Friends and relatives are meeting daily at his home in Kiruru, at his son’s home in Karanjee Limuru and at his son’s home in Kahawa Sukari every day for prayers and funeral arrangements.

The cortege leaves Outspan Hospital Mortuary on Tuesday 02/04/2019 at 8.00am for the church service and burial at his home in Kiruru, Kiria-ini, Murang’a County.
