Benjamin Murugara Gakuru

We regret to announce the promotion to glory of Benjamin Murugara Gakuru which occurred on 28th June 2022 at the Texas Cancer Centre.

He was the son of the late Mzee Gakuru Nkuura and the late Kanini Gakuru. Brother to the late Philip Mbura, John Muturo and the late Kimugwu Gakuru.

Loving husband to Lenah Gaciri Murugara. Father to Tabitha Mutabe (Business lady – Ciampiu),. Regina Kathiomi (Business lady – Ciampiu), Hon George Gitonga (MP – Tharaka Constituency), Johnson Murimi (DCI – Nairobi), Martha Kanini (Teacher – Kilimbui Pry School), Richard Muthee (DCI – Marakwet East), the late Francis Kiongo, Mary Muthoni (Kenya Police – Nairobi), Evans Njagi (Bank of Baroda – Nairobi), Dickson Mutiiria (Judiciary – Machakos), Dr Lucy Kawira (Masters Student in Family Medicine – Kenyatta University) and Clement Mugane of Mukothima.

He was father-in-law to the late Nicholas Giti, Joseph Mukungi Gikware, Angelica Gatiiria Gitonga, Mercy Mwende Murimi, Elosy Kananu Murimi, Joseph Mutui Ndoro, Agatha Gakunyi Muthee, Irene Karnene Kiongo, Martin M. Mwaniki, Agnes Wamuyu Njagi, Bancy Karimi Mutiiria, Jonah Muthami Kithome and Anne Kathambi Mugane.

Grandfather to Douglas Mugendi, Ben Mukundi, Lawrence Matatai Joseph Muturia, Thambo Mbeki, James Mutembei, Faith Kathangaru, Adv. Christopher Muraguri, Sally Gaceri, Angeline Mutheu, Arch Prince Mwandiki, Christian Kimathi, the late Amani Mwende, Imani Nthambi, Jane Kagugi, Emmaculate Makena, Happiness Mutheu, Godbless Karani, Peter Rugendo, Rebecca Mugeni, Caroline Kamunda, June Mutheu, Lucky Ngumbau, Benjamin Mutongoria, Patience Kawanja, Vincent Mutuma, Victor Safari, Joseph Mainda, Happiness Joy Mukami, Annabel Makena, Arianna Wanjiku, Shalin Sophie Kendi, Gloria Lavin Mwende, Victor Mwaki, Joshua Muthomi, Calvin Murithi, Angel Makena and Bravo Mugane.

Great Grandfather Florah Nkatha, Cyril Ngambi, Lewis Munene, Felix Mungwana, Leonel Munene, Aiden Foebe, Edwin Muthomi, Jayden Kimathi, Eliana Gatwiri, Kyle Munene, and Skylynne Makena. Benjamin was an uncle to many nephews and nieces.

The cortege will leave the Kenyatta University Teaching Research and Referral Hospital Funeral Home on Saturday 16th July 2022 at 6.00am for the final rites and prayers to be held at Mukothima Primary School at 10.00am. Afterwards, the funeral procession will lay him to rest at his home in Kaguriini (Mukothima), Thiiti Sub-location, Thiiti Location, Tharaka North Sub–county, Tharaka-Nithi County.

Dad, we all loved you but God loved you most. As they say, `Generals do not die but only go to sleep.’ As a Seasoned General, sleep well Mzee Benjamin Murugara Gakuru!
