I worked with Bernadette at Nellie’s Women’s Shelter in Toronto for years. She was an amazing woman. Her eyes sparkled when she talked, and her voice was so distinct – calming, yet excited. I loved her playful nature. She was such a strong advocate for the women we serve, and I admired her a lot and learned a lot from her early in my career. I remember she was such a strong advocate for refugee women, and was a huge resource at the shelter assisting women with immigration/refugee status paperwork. I am sure she touched many lives, and I am very sorry to hear of her passing. She is a well-respected, lovely woman and will be missed greatly.
