Nyamira Governor John Obiero Nyagarama dies aged 74

Nyamira Governor John Obiero Nyagarama, 74, died early Friday at the Nairobi Hospital intensive care unit (ICU),  where he had been admitted for more than a month.

Reports indicated that the governor suffered Covid-19 complications. His family said that he had breathing problems after his lungs collapsed.

Governor Nyagarama had been leading campaigns aimed at curbing the virus in his county, urging residents to follow guidelines issued by the government through the Health ministry.

Nyamira Deputy Governor Amos Nyaribo contracted Covid-19 at the beginning of November and was treated at various hospitals in Nairobi for three weeks.

Nyagarama’s first wife, Dorcas Sigara, died in 1998, leaving him with 10 children. His eldest son, George Ndemo Nyagarama died on June 11, 2018 after a long illness.

Nyagarama later married a woman named Naomi. His other children are the late Catherine, Emily, Kefah, Gideon, Mary, Erick, Isaiah, Sam and Tom.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the demise of our loving father, Mwalimu Tom Isaiah Ouso of Obwongo Otwagi, Kamgundho Sub Location, Uriri, Migori County; after a short illness. He was the Director, Gracoso Bookshop, Migori; Chairman B.O.M Rapogi Girls and Ranen Adventist Secondary School, B.O.M member, Sagero Secondary School and formerly the Director of Adult Education Dept in the Ministry of Culture and Social services.

Husband to Grace Adhiambo Ouso, loving father to Anne & Joshua Ouma, Roselyne, Irene, Cecilia & Peter Maina, Sarah & Musa Nyang’aya. Grandfather to Faith, Peter, Hope, Destiny, Nia, Thando and Ethan. He was the youngest son to the late Anyona Otulo and the late Sarah Anyona. Brother to the late Ernest Omango and the late Brigita Achola. Son in-law to the late Michael Obiero Asir and late Cecilia Okello Obiero of Alego Masumbi. Brother in-law to the late Jackton Ochieng, Silvia Omeno, Felgona Obiero, Rhoda Onyango,Tom Ndolo, Nereah Odhiambo, the late Adams Ogola and Alice Atieno. Nyawana to the late Samuel Ouma Boro and Mama Peres Ouma of Kuoyo Kochia, the late Elijah Oguk Nyang’aya and the late Mary Nyang’aya of Ringa Kojwach, Kasipul, and Mr. Robert Mungai & Dr. Anne Mungai of Murang’a.

He was a church elder at Nyamome SDA Church in Migori and formerly at Nairobi Central SDA Church. He was a teacher, educationist and mentor to many.

Due to the extended stay under intensive care, the Late has left a huge hospital bill. To assist in offsetting the medical bill and other expenses, the family is appealing for prayers and financial support from friends and well-wishers through MPESA Paybill no. 7556289, A/c No. Tom Ouso Medical Fund.

The major fundraising event shall be held on Sunday 20th December at Nairobi Central SDA Church as from 2pm.

A memorial service with live streaming on You Tube will be held on Tuesday 22nd December at Nairobi Central SDA Church starting 10am.

The burial shall be on Thursday 24th December at 9am, at the family home in Nyamome, Migori County as per MOH COVID-19 protocols.

Beloved wife of Stephen Ngare Nyamboki. Daughter of William (Late) and Truphena Mageto. A loving mother of Charles, David, Bathsheba, Lilian (late) and Everlyne. Grandmother to many, sister to Jairus, Charles, Samuel, Caleb, Ogamba (USA), Ndemo, Tom (late) and Mayieka. Daughter-in-law of the late Hezron and Peris Nyamboki, sister-in-law of William Nyamongo (late), Harun Osoro among others. An aunt and cousin to many.

A fundraiser to offset the bills will be held on December 20th, 2020 from 11:00am at Nyamage, Kisii.

The cortege leaves Christy Marriane Funeral Home, Kisii on Tuesday December 22nd, 2020, at 9:00am, for a funeral service at Nyamage Primary grounds. Burial will take place thereafter at her home in Nyamage, Kisii.

Father to Kevin Kimani (Australia), Cindy Wangari (KMTC) and Shantal Wanjiku (Carmelvale Catholic Primary School). Brother to Rose Wanjiku, Mary, Dr. Ruth, Christine, Esther, Joel, the late Miriam, Margaret, Zipporah, Andrew and John. Son in-law to Mr. and Mrs. Kang’ong’a. Brother in-Law, Cousin and uncle to many.

There will be a memorial service on Monday 21st December, at ACK St. Faith Church Civil Servant (Kariobangi) starting at 2:00pm.

The cortege will leave Kenyatta University Teaching Referral and Research Hospital Funeral Home (off Kiambu/ Northern Bypass) at 7:30am on Tuesday 22nd December 2020.

Burial will take place at his farm in Muruaki Scheme, Kinangop, Nyandarua County.

He was the father-in-law of Beatrice Wanjiku, Samuel Maina, Daniel Kigondu, Phoebe Nungari, and Edward Thuranira.

Brother of Helina Muthoni, the late Phyllis Wangui, Julius Kariuki, Lydia Wangari, the late Hannah Wairimu, & the late Margaret Wanjiku. Brother-in-law of Mr & Mrs Javanson Munene, Mr & Mrs Erastus Gitonga, Mr & Mrs Ephantus Karunjugu, Mr & Mrs Harry Mugo and Mr & Mrs Peterson Githu. He was the doting uncle and grandfather of many.

Omong’ina Jemima Kemuma Osoro was born in 1930, as the last born daughter of the late Martin_Mogetutu and the late Tabitha Mogere from Kemera, Nyamira County.

Daughter in-law to the late Ongata Omatagi and the late Omongina Kwamboka. Sister to the late Rebecca Kerubo, the late Zephaniah Mokaya, late Nemuel Ogato, the late Samuel Onkoba, Japheth Nyambati and Tabitha Mogere. She got married in 1948 to the late Andrew Osoro Ongata and were blessed with 11 children. The children are the late Samuel Nyabira Onkoba, the late Jeremiah, the late Samson Nyambati, Charles Omoro, David Mogaka, the late Thomas Abuya, the late Tabitha Nyagechanga, Ann Barango, the late Teresa Masese, thelate Hellen Nyonsige and George Mogaka.

Co-wife to Eucabeth Mwango and step-mother to the late Ongata, Martha, Elkana, the late Olpha, Elijah, Esther, the late Magati,Alice and Caren. Mother-in-law to Frida Nyaboke, Hebisiba Nyaboke, Ebisiba Moraa, Margaret Kemunto, Beatrice Kerubo and Kennedy Siika. Korera to the late Nyakundi, the late Gideon, the late Chweya, the late Nyakina, the late Omboi and the late Siika. Grandmother to 29 and great-grandmother to 19.

Jemima passed away on the morning of Friday, 11th December 2020 at the age of 90 years. She will be buried on Monday, 21st December 2020 at her home in MasaboVillage, Kiamokama, Nyaribari Chache, Kisii County.
