It is with great sorrow that The Central Organization of Trade Unions, COTU (K) Secretary General Dr. Francis Atwoli, NOM (DZA), CBS, EBS, MBS announces the Passing on of COTU (K)’s Chairman General Bro. Clr. Rajabu Wellington Mwondi, MBS on Wednesday, 16th August, 2023.

Bro. Mwondi was first elected COTU (K) 2nd Vice Chairman General in 1986, a position he served until 1997 when he was elected the 1st Vice Chairman General and in December, 2003, when he became COTU (K)’s Chairman General, a position he has been elected consecutively unopposed for a record four times until his demise.

Considering his contribution in the labour movement in Kenya and beyond, in December 2010, Brother Mwondi was Honoured and Awarded The Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) by the Government of Kenya. Equally, Brother Mwondi has been the longest serving General Secretary of The Kenya Union of Printing, Paper Manufacturing and Allied Workers (KUPR1PUPA) since 1983 until his demise.

Brother Mwondi was Husband to the late Mama Felda lkuzuhi Mwondi and Father to Patrick Apiya (deceased), Francis Agalo (deceased), Beatrice Jahonga, John Lihanda, Wycliffe Agwalo,Violet Munyasa, Isaac Odanga and Edith Jalenga.

He will be laid to rest on Saturday, 2nd September, 2023 at his home in Kapchemgug Village, Jepkoyai Hamisi, Vihiga County.

May his Soul Rest in Eternal Peace. AMEN!
