Dr Miriam Auma Okong’o
Appreciation
4th January, 1945 – 30th September, 2022
The family of the late Dr Miriam Auma Okong’o wishes to express sincere gratitude to all who provided comfort and gifts of time, talent and treasure as we bade farewell to our mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt, and friend. The extended family beyond Oyugis and Awendo appreciates your prayers for us at this difficult time.
We acknowledge her medical care by the teams of Drs Emmanuel Oyier, Edwin Otieno, Teresa Kinyari, and Mr David Oluoch-Olunya.
Dr Okong’o was wife of the late Prof. Owino Okong’o of Ulanda-Alego, and mother of Nora Anyango, Luke Othieno, Ochieng’ Nyanjom, Paul Okoth (and Casey), and Matthew Omondi. She was daughter of Benjamin Bwana, Belseba Odondi (both deceased), and Maritha Adongo of Oyugis, and sister of Leonora Opere, Dorcas Odhiambo (deceased), and Rhoda Odingo (deceased). Also, Joshwa (deceased), Arkipo (deceased), and Susan Bwana. She leaves behind adoring grandsons Joshua,Timothy, and Samuel.
Dr Okong’o, an alumna of Alliance Girls’ High School, was in the inaugural class of physicians trained at the University of Nairobi. She enjoyed a career in General Practice with a focus on Paediatrics, and later in Counselling, until her retirement.
Because of her confession of faith in Jesus, we do not grieve as those without hope; weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. (1 Thessalonians 4: 13; Psalm 30:5)
