DR. VLADIMIR VITALIYEVICH SHCHUKIN – WHO WAS HE?
Dr. Vladimir Shchukin died on 9th November 2020.
He was a Bariatric, General and Laparoscopic Surgeon. Bariatric means relating to or specializing in the treatment of obesity.
He was an active participant in new findings and procedures in his field with over 30 years of experience in surgery.
Dr. V. Shchukin was a visiting consultant surgeon at The Nairobi Hospital, among other major health facilities in the Capital. His main areas of specialization are Acute Abdominal Surgery, Bariatric and Thyroid Surgery.
Having practiced laparoscopic surgery since 2009, he become interested in Obesity Surgery and was specialized in leading Bariatric Centers of Israel, Belgium, Sweden, Ukraine, Poland and US. “Bariatric surgery had come on board as the most effective treatment for obesity and many other diseases”, said Dr. Shchukin.
Dr. V. Shchukin had performed more than 1 500 successful bariatric surgeries in Nairobi, Kenya.
He was the Head of East African Bariatric Center – Center of Excellence in Obesity Surgery. He was also a Co-Founder of Holistic Living as well as a Director of the Obesity Awareness Organization, Africa. Since 2014, he had been a key Organizer of the Annual East African Obesity Symposiums in Kenya.
Member of the Kenya Medical Association (KMA), Kenya Society for Endoscopic Specialities (KESES), a fellow of College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) and a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
Dr Vladimir is survived by his wife, Lyudmila, his children, relatives, and friends. Dr. Shchukin and his family migrated to Kenya in 1994.
He was a dedicated surgeon who built a reputable practice and helped countless people. His patients and colleagues described him as a gentleman, a soft soul, and a great mentor.
Vladimir’s love of family and dedication to the medical community was exceptional. Vladimir’s deepest joy was in the time he spent with friends and family.
