Francis Kimani Gacheru (QS)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the departure of our dear Francis Kimani Gacheru, aged 67, on 15 May, 2022. On behalf of Simon Ndun’gu Gacheru and Dana April Seidenberg, we would like to say in our sorrow that he will be sadly missed by all those who loved him.

The third-born son of peasant farmers from Kirinyaga, Kimani’s large family was always nearby whenever they were needed. Coming from a family of nine boys and two girls. The brothers are Peter Kamau, the late Macharia, the late Mwaura, Ngugi, Ndunglu, the late Gathimbu, Kinyanjui and Njoroge. The sisters are Wangui and Njeri. The loss is enormous for the whole family including his uncle Gathungu Karurnbi. The loss is equally terrible for me Dana, as Kimani was for twenty-five years, my companion, lover, best friend, soul mate and fellow traveler.

Having graduated from Maseno High School, among the best government schools, he joined the University of Nairobi. He selected Building Economics, graduating with honors. Among his eccentricities, Kimani was artistic, loved nature and learned to play the piano.

He is irreplaceable: There can never be another Kimani!
