It is thirty years since you have been gone, Papa. The days and months have throbbed away dully. Memories of you, of your gentle nature, your warmth, subtle humour, Calming and reassuring presence, and your faith in God, Have defied the many long months of your absence Have retained their freshness in our minds Have been the antidote to many confusing situations The reassurance that we have fallen back on to move on The warmth we have basked in whenever tomorrow has seemed a fog. As you rest in your heavenly home, know that those you loved and nurtured And those you would have loved and nurtured hod they found you here All join in remembering you, in praying that your rest be an eternal bliss.

Mama, your two years’ absence is stark, present every moment Heard in the words of your loved ones, seen in your friends’ smiles, There in your favourite pew at Our Lady of Guadalupe, discernible in your rosaries Rekindled by your favourite phrases, by the sound of your voice that still rings loud. The touch may indeed be gone but we revel in the knowledge that the absence is temporary in the knowledge of the Promise, in the knowledge that you rest welt
