Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) celebrates the life and legacy of Hon. Silas Muriuki Ruteere, who until his death on September, 2023 was the Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees.

He was a beloved husband to Evangeline Mwarania Muriuki and devoted father to Caroline Karimi (Medialink Group) and Nathan Barmasai (Businessman), Irene Kajuju (ICAO-UN) and Willy Sigei (Businessman), Prudence Kagwiria (Standard Chartered Bank), Alfred Kiriinya (Kenya Pipeline Company) and Peris Njoki, Lewis Mutuma (SMR Dairies) and Deborah Kanyiri (ICPMG East Africa).

Hon. Muriuki was known not just for his formidable leadership, but for his humility, approachability and genuine interest in the wellbeing of the University. Beyond his engagements in the BoT, the University also celebrates him as one of its founding fathers. Hon. Muriuki was the Chairman of Kaaga Rural Training Centre which was the foundation of KeMU. During that period, he not only gave his personal contribution but also mobilized the entire group of teachers in Meru, the members of the Methodist Church in Kenya and organized a fundraising event that led to the establishment of the Kenya Methodist University. The University greatly honours him for this.

The cortege leaves Lee Funeral Home on Friday, 15th September, 2023 at 5.00 a.m. for a funeral service at KEMU Main Campus, Meru County.

Thereafter, a private burial ceremony will be held at his home in Runogone Village, Meru County.

As we bid farewell to an irreplaceable member of our University and the community at large, let us remember the lessons that he imparted upon us: to lead with integrity to serve with passion, and to always prioritize the greater good.
