It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce to you the death of John Mungai Mata a retired lecturer at Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) which occurred on 23rd January 2026 after a long illness.
He was a husband of the late Mary Wairimu Mungai, a loving father of Salome Muthoni Mungai (St. Paul’s University), Grace Wanjiku Mungai (ACK Bishop Kariuki Academy), Martin Mata Mungai & Elizabeth Mata (USA) and Hope Wanjiru Mungai (USA). Devoted grandfather of Peter Kiruri, Ian Kuria, Ivy Wairimu, John Hue Mungai and Matthew Mungai (USA).
He was a brother of Antony Gitagia, Peter Gitagia, late George Kimani, the late Lucy Wanjiru, Simon Kamau, Anthony Ndu’ngu, the late James Ngige, the late Cecilia Nduta and Mary Nyambura (Qatar) and uncle to many.
Prayers and funeral arrangements are been held at his home in Gathunguri, Muthure village, Gitaru Ward, Kabete Constituency, Kiambu County everyday from 4pm.
Burial ceremony will be held on 31st January 2026 at St Ann’s Muthure Catholic Church from and proceed to gravesite thereafter at his home in Gathunguri village.
