Remembering the Life and Legacy of Joseph Karuri Richard Paul Gichuki: A Beloved Family Man, Businessman, and Community Leader. Mr. Joseph Karuri Richard Paul Gichuki, 57, passed away suddenly in the evening of 15th March, 2023. His passing came as a great shock to all those who knew him.

Affectionately known as Joe, Mr Gichuki was known for his generosity, kindness and love of life. He was a loving husband to Beatrice Waithira Gichuki, a devoted father to their three children and a cherished member of his extended family.

He excelled both academically and professionally, graduating from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and rising through the ranks to the position of Partner in various leading Accounting and Audit firms in Nairobi.

At the time of his demise, Joe was a partner in JG Associates Certified Public Accountants and was CEO at his own Advisory firm Kawai Consulting Limited. Joe was also Treasurer and Board Member at the Scripture Union; Board Chair of Jacaranda Hotels Group; and an active Fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya.

Joe’s commitment to public service and in sharing his experience and knowledge extended Leyond his business pursuits. He served a three-year term as a Board Member and Treasurer at PATH Kenya – a leading public health non-profit organisation – where he worked to improve the organisation’s systems and processes. He frequently visited PATH project sites in the field, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to serving his community and making a positive difference in advancing health equity.

In addition to his many accomplishments in the business world, Joe was deeply committed to his spiritual faith. He remained a devoted member of his childhood church, Lavington United Church, where he served as chairman for five years and directed the church choir for several years until his tragic passing. With his love for song and worship, he devoted countless hours to the choir’s activities, including outreach events across Kenya and in other countries. Lavington United Church held a special place in Joe’s heart as his second home, where he and his family worshipped and formed strong bonds with the community.

In honour of Joe’s memory, his family and friends have dedicated the Joe Gichuki Memorial Fund to the Lavington United Church’s New Sanctuary initiative to which he had a long-standing personal obligation.

His unwavering commitment to his community, his place of worship and to loved ones and friends will forever be cherished.
