Lydia Maseke Ateng’ (“Mama Patience”)

It’s with great sadness that we share the news of the passing on of Lydia Maseke Ateng’ which occurred on 9th May 2023 due to complications related to chronic deep venous thrombosis.

She was the loving wife of Ateng’ Ogwel (Ministry of Education, Nairobi), mother to Patience Ateng’ (Vibanda Village), Joan Rosemary (Multimedia University, Joan Lynette (KCA University) and Heinz (Maseno School).

She’s the daughter of Mzee Snr. Chief Boniface Rioba Machera (deceased) and Mama Elizabeth Rioba (deceased) of Bwirege West, Ntimaru. She was the daughter in law of Mzee Alex Ogwel (deceased), Mama Anjeline Ogwel and Mama Saline Ogwel of Gongo-Kobuya, Homa Bay County.

Sister to Christine Mahanga, Vincent Wambura, Susan Sawi, Monica Mariba (deceased), Rose Wamalwa (deceased), Augustus Bageni (Matare), and James Machera (deceased).

Sister in-law to Cornel Oluoch, Consolata Aloo, Sabina (deceased), Benedict Otieno (deceased), Francis Ogwel (CIC Insurance), James Ogwel (KDC), Josephine Atieno, and Meshack Ogwel, Joseph Mahanga (deceased), Mathias Sawi, Elnei Mariba (deceased), Raphael Wamalwa, Christine, Margaret (Kohero Primary), Sofia and Agnes.

Co-wife to Anjeline (deceased), Naomi (deceased), Consolata (PCEA Mai-a-Hii High), Margaret, Sarah, and Lilian.

There was a requiem mass on 23rd May 2023.at St. Antony’s Jamii Bora Catholic Church, St. Paul’s Kisaju Parish.

The cortege leaves Umash Funeral Home on 25th May 2023 for Gongo-Kobuya, Homa Bay County for an overnight vigil. She will be laid to rest on Friday, 26th May 2023 at Mzee Alex Ogwel’s home.
