Mama Gladys Orao Ombara

1932 – 2022

It is with profound sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing on to glory of Mama Gladys Orao Ombara. She passed away on 13th June, 2022 after a long illness bravely borne.

Beloved wife of the late Canon Jacob Ombara of Kano Kabar.

She was the first-born daughter to Mzee Zablon Misala and Mama Lorna Ayieko (both deceased) of Kisumo Karateng’.

Mother to Lilian Atieno, Julius Opiyo, Naomi Mariwa, Christine Oraro, Doris Ombara, the late Mary Ombara (Tatu), Omwa Ombara, June Ombara and Luke Ombara. Mother-in-law to Senior Counsel George Oraro, Dr. George Jalang’o Midiwo, John Ferry, Irene Opiyo, Linet Ombara and Linda Mummassaba.

Grandmother to Kim, Jeff, Caesar, Franklin, Kevin, Gladys, David, Jacob, Kepha, Monica,Tessa, Cindy, Jack-Anthony, Ryan, Loni, Jackie-Gladys, Jacqui-May, Elvis and Graca. Great-grandmother to Krysta, Brian, Lily, Rooney, Lyam, Rehema and Alexander.

Sister to the late Felgona Ambayo, Yunia Amimo, Jane Ogongo, the late Apollo Magana, Benter Oloo and Barack Owiti.

Paternal aunt to the Ogollas, Adolas, Wadenyas, Oberas, Ochollas, Ong’awas of Kabar and the Ageng’os of Kano Kimira. Maternal aunt to the Ambayos, Amimos, Ogongos, Oloos, Maganas and the Owitis.

A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen’s Cathedral – Kisumu on Thursday 23rd June, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.

Thereafter, the cortege will leave the Aga Khan Hospital Mortuary on Friday 24th June, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. for a burial ceremony at St. Luke’s ACK Makindu Church – Muhoroni. Burial will take place at her farm in God Nyithindo Village,Tonde Location, Muhoroni Sub-county, thereafter.

Fundraising meetings to offset the hospital bills and funeral expenses are ongoing at the family residence in Kondele, Kisumu and at God Nyithindo home.
