Mama Salome Okiri Opiyo

October 20, 1924 – November 29, 2022

The Opiyo family regret to announce the death of “Mama” Salome Okiri Opiyo which occurred on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 after a long illness bravely borne.

Mama was the daughter of the late Mzee Andrea Okal and the late Mama Sara Abunge of Thur Gem, Agora, Nyakach in Kisumu County.

She was the wife to the late Pastor Nikolao Opiyo and mother to Hulda Omollo, Karen Okomba, Amos Okeyo, Jabbez Otieno, Abia Okeyo, the late Margaret Oduor, Florence Ochieng’, Philip Opiyo, Thomas Opiyo, Olivia Oketch, Jennifer Opiyo, the late Donald Opiyo, Baruck Opiyo, Marvin Opiyo, Rhoda Ochola, Samuel Opiyo, Grace Ariwi, and Richard Opiyo.

Mama Salome was Mother in law to Musa Omollo (Hulda), the late Francis Okomba (Karen), ApeRes Okeyo (Amos), Joska Nafuna (Jabbez), Stephen Abebe (the late Julia Abia), Booker Oduor (the late Margaret), Elly Ochieng’ (Florence), Monica Opiyo (Philip), Florence Opiyo (Thomas), Barack Oketch (Olivia), Pamela Odhiambo (the late Donald), Lilian Ochieng (Marvin), Dan Ochola (Rhoda), and Hosea Ariwi (Grace).

Mama Salome was the only surviving sibling to Japuonj Joel Oluoch, Japuonj John Kocko, Jaduong’ Samuel Obolla, Mama Damar Odak, Mama Martha Ombura, jaduong’ Yusto Nyamolo, jaduong’ Musa Ouko, Mama Perpetua Ogweno, jaduong’ Zablon Anyumba Okal and Ruth Ogembo.

Mama Salome was Grandma to 93 grandchildren and had 136 great-grandchildren.

There will be a fundraising event on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, from 5:00pm at Nairobi Central S.D.A Church opp. Integrity Centre, Jakaya Kikwete Road.

The Funeral Service will be held at Nairobi Central S.D.A Church on Wednesday 14th December 2022 from 10.00 am.

The cortege will leave Umash Funeral Home on Wednesday, 21 December 2022 for Dier Aora at 6:30 am. The burial will be on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at the family home in Dier Aora Village, Migori County.
