Peter Aiden Otieno Olando (Wuod Onanda)

With great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude, we announce the passing of our kind, brave and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Mr. Peter Alden Otieno Olando (wuod Onanda). He passed away on Tuesday, 18th April 2023 in hospital in Nairobi County surrounded by his loving family, following a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in August 1951 in Ugenya, he was a humble and highly regarded professional with a distinguished career in public service including a long-standing appointment as a Diplomatic representative of the Government of Kenya; serving as Head of Delegation; Head of Finance at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nairobi; and upon retirement, becoming a successful dairy and produce farmer.

A devoted catholic and son of the late Jaduong Robert Onanda Olando of Ugenya and late Mama Maria Amolo of Alego, he is survived by his loving wife Mrs. Esther Olando; children, Everlyne, Vincent, Christine, Maureen, Pauline,Andrew and Lorraine; brother to Mrs Agnes Anyango of Sega; father-in-law to Tobias, Zehra and Sanjaya; grandfather to Samuel, Joseph, David and Amor; a brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, mentor and dear friend to many.

Final fundraising will be held by friends and well-wishers at Garden Square Nairobi on Wednesday 10th May 2023 at 5.00pm.

A vigil and memorial is to be held on Thursday, 11th May 2023 at Mzee Olando’s Langata home.

A requiem mass will be conducted at Kibuye Catholic Church — St Theresa’s Cathedral Kisumu on Friday, 12th May 2023 at 1.30pm with farewell and burial to be held in Miwani at 11am on Saturday, 13th May 2023.
