Appreciation

We, the family of the late Prof. Joseph Mwaniki Kitonyi, thank the almighty God for the life He gave to Joseph and for the years we spent with him. We are grateful for the blessing that Joseph was to us and to many others.

Our sincere and heartfelt gratitude goes to friends, immediate and extended family, colleagues, workmates and well-wishers who stood by us during our time of grief and during Joseph’s sickness. We are deeply grateful for prayers, messages of encouragement, condolences, telephone calls, visits to the family, gifts both financial and in-kind, tributes and moral support.`Your support brought us comfort and strength and helped us to give Joseph a befitting send-off. We are blessed and privileged to have you as family and friends.

We acknowledge the medical care provided by doctors who looked after Joseph at Cancer Care Kenya, Apollo Hospital Chennai in India, and The Nairobi Hospital. Special mention goes to the late Dr. E. Njuguna, Prof. J. Ating’a, Dr. H. Abwao, Dr. S. Gathua, Dr. M. Wanyoike, Prof. E. Amayo, Dr. T. Kwasa, Prof. E. Ogutu. Dr. H. Irimu, Dr. H. Kioko and Dr. Vijay Narayan. Prof. O. Abinya and Dr. E. Munyoro’s advice, formal and informal consultation is appreciated. A special thank you goes to the nurses at the Nairobi Hospital St. Lukes Ward, Caregivers of AVA Medicare, Bridgers, Prestige Nursing Services and the many other home care nurses who participated in Joseph’s care.

Special mention goes to the Nairobi Baptist Church, the clergy of Kaliluni Churches in Machakos, Rev. John Gichinga and Hon, Rev. Mutava Musyimi, Rev. Kitonyi Memorial School, Br. of former Golf course, Kabete and Lavington / Kileleshwa Bible study Fellowships, all those family and friends who shared special tributes, Mr. & Mrs Waweru Gatonye, the Assistant Chief of Kaliluni, the Kaliluni Welfare Funeral Association, Joseph’s former school mates from Kangundo, Kenyatta College and UoN Med School, University of Nairobi, College of Health Sciences (UoN), Department of Diagnostic Imaging (UoN), Faculty of Pathologists, Department of Human Pathology (UoN), Kenya Association of Radiologists, Grace’s med School classmates (Class of 1970), Sam’s JUMO colleagues and Alliance High School classmates, and many young people and friends who provided logistical support before and during the funeral.

Finally, we thank the dedicated funeral committee in Nairobi chaired by Prof. Henry Thairu and Arch. Allan Simu and in Kaliluni, Machakos chaired by Mr. Mwilu, who worked so tirelessly and diligently to give Joseph a highly successful and befitting send-off.

We  owe a big debt of gratitude to many and we would have wished to thank everyone individually but since we cannot do so, please accept this as our deep expression of gratitude to you. May God’s favour and blessings be upon you all.
