Professor John Ongayo Kokwaro (DSC, PhD)

 27th December 1940 — 13th December 2019

It is with deep sorrow and acceptance of God’s will, that we announce the death of (RTD) Prof. John Kokwaro of University of Nairobi at the Nairobi Hospital on 13/12./019.

Son of the late Mzee James Okwaro and the late Mama Priscah Opondo of Gem – Barsauri. Son-in-law of the late Mr. Harold Mbati and the late Mama Loise Flora Mbari of Ebusiralo- Bunyore. Loving husband of Prof. Elizabeth Kokwaro (Kenyatta University). Adored father of Dina, Eunice, Edward (USA), Dr. Alfred (USA), Dr. Flora (UK), Steven, Brenda and Susan. Grandfather of David.

Brother of Meshack Odhiambo Kokwaro, Paul Kokwaro (GLUK), Prof. Gilbert Kokwaro (Strathmore University). Brother-in-law of Monica, Ettah, Margaret, the late Florence & the late Stanley Sanya, James & Elizabeth, Douglas and Janet Mbati. Beverly Mbati. Dr. Kenneth Mbati & Ursula, Roselyn & Ambrose Olela, Joy & Zedekiah Otolo, Georgina & Oliver Rictus (Switzerland). A cousin of Kezziah, Mary Radier among others. Uncle, friend, mentor and colleague of many.

A church service will be held on Thursday the 19/12/2019 at All Saints Cathedral Nairobi at 10:00am. The funeral procession will proceed to Yala on Friday 20/12/2019 for a church service at ACK St. Pauls Yala at 11.00am.

The Burial ceremony will be held at Odera Kango University grounds on Saturday the 21/12/2019 from 9.00am followed by burial at his home, Gem Yala.

Meetings are being held daily as from 6.00pm at the United Kenya Club and a final fund raising meeting on Wednesday 18/12/2019 from 5.00pm at the United Kenya Club. Contributions can be made through Pay Bill No. (891300), Account no (Kokwaro).

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.
