My sincere condolences on Stewart’s passing to Wanjira and their family. I met Stewart when we were at Central Queensland University, Australia at the same time – I remember Stewart’s friendly collegiality and his unwavering commitment to using educational technologies to enhance learning and teaching experiences. Since then, he was unfailingly forgiving of my being tardy in submitting my reviews for submissions to the “International Journal of Education and Development using ICT” that Stewart founded, and that Denise (Gaspard-Richards) now oversees. It was characteristically Stewart to create the journal as a home for current and aspiring scholars committed to ICTs as drivers of the democractising potential of formal education, and this network of scholars that he developed and supported is one among many reminders of Stewart’s continuing presence in our lives. Very best wishes to everyone, Patrick (Danaher) (University of Southern Queensland, Australia)

Stewart and I corresponded and worked together for a while when I worked as Editor of the Journal of Pedagogic Development (out of the University of Bedfordshire, UK). After that work we kept in touch from time to time; I reviewed the occasional book for him, for example. It was always a pleasant working atmosphere. I had hoped to meet him in person one day.

    Rest in peace, Stewart.

    My condolences to all affected.

    Best wishes

I had the great pleasure to meet Stewart and I did work with him in the early years of the Journal. I found him an absolute professional with a very clear focus on what was important. A kind and gentle Man with a love for others. A mentor who encouraged and guided. This is a sad time and yet it’s also a time for rejoicing and acknowledging the great contribution that he made to the world, but in my case also to me as an individual as he did for many other individuals. Rest in peace Stewart, and thank you.

The passing on of Prof. Stewart Marshall is a personal loss to me. He lunched me into the research world by his patient and understanding guidance in the course of reviewing my works. He planted in me the seed of “I can do it” giving me substantial confidence to confront other review experiences. I know he will be seriously missed by his colleagues but by far more than those of us in remote locations who learnt from his sea of experience and as a result are on our way up. Good night Prof. Marshall
