Protasio Njeru

It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Protasio Njeru that occurred on Sunday, 9th April 2023 at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi following a brief illness. Mr. Njeru was Chairman of the Njeru Group of Companies and a prominent farmer, businessman and philanthropist in Meru and the surrounding regions.

He was the beloved husband of Sigsmond Karwirwa Njeru.

Son of the late Raphael Nieri and the late Marcela Warue of Kevote Village. Embu County. Son-in-law to the late Joseph M’Twaruchiu Muuru and the late Agnes Ncau M’Twaruchiu.

Father to Lawrence Kinyua.Anthony Munithi, Christine Warue, and Henry Paul Ireri. Father-in-law to Carol Komen, Edna Gakii, Kennedy Kinyanjui, and Roselynn Njoki. Grandfather to Mark Njeru, Vanessa Mwendwa, Albert Murimi, Raymond Muchui, Claudia Tracy Mukami, Abigael Makena, Angela Ntinyari, and Gregory Njeru. Brother to the late Barnabas lreri, the late Augustine Njagi, the late Guillermo Njiru, the late Alois, the late Ancieta, the late Michael Raphael, and Ann Marigu Mbui.

Brother-in-law to the late Albert Mutwiri, the late Eugenia K. Raiji, Maria Angela Nduru Maingi, the late Michael Mbaya, the late Rita Mukuba, Cipriano Mwithiga and Timothy Kiogora. And the late Silvesta Rwamba lreri, the late Juliet Mumu Njagi, the late Lucy Kathambi Njiru, Mercy Wambura Michael, and Samuel Kabiti Mbui.

Nephew to Njoka Ngano’s family (Kianjokoma), Gatune Ngano’s family (Kavutiri). Cousin to Kagori family. and Ndwiga Murwanjamio family (both of Kevote, Embu County.

He was a beloved uncle, friend. and mentor to many.

A brief service and prayers will be held at the Lee Funeral Home, Nairobi, on Thursday, 20th April 2023 at 9:30am.

Immediately following the service, the cortege will leave Lee Funeral Home at 12:00 noon, destined for Meru. There will be a brief stopover on the Embu — Meru highway near the junction to Makengi at Kairungu area, just before Karue Hill near Embu at 2:00pm.

The Funeral Service will be held the following day, Friday, 21st April, 2023, at St Joseph’s Cathedral, Meru starting at 10.00am. Thereafter, there will be a private burial at his home in Kambakia, Meru.
