Samuel Hezekiah Onyango Okaka
It is with deep sorrow and the humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing on of our dear father — Samuel Hezekiah Onyango Okaka, which took place on 21st April 2023.
He was the son of the late Mzee Hezekiah Okaka and Mama Deborah Otira of Mariwa, Awendo, Migori County — (both the late). Mzee was the son-in-law of the late Jakobo Ochola and Dinah Adhiambo of Odeko, Uranga Village, East Gem location of Siaya County.
Mzee was a devoted husband to Elizabeth Awino Onyango and father to Dorothee and Richard Omwela, Jennifer and David Odhiambo, Debb and Roy Cottrell, Artie and Prof. Madara Ogot, Fredrick and Patricia Okaka and, Christine and John Ochola.
Grandfather to Jeff, Alexis, Bianca and Job, Akinyi, Ger, Miles, Kiki,Theo, Samara and Sammie. Great Grandfather to Leko and Kere.
Brother to Matilda Ongor, Prof. Douglas Odhiambo, Abner Ochieng, Nellie Okello and Christopher Adeny – (all late).
Brother-in-law to Athanasio Ongor, William Okello, and Janet Adeny – (all late) and Grace Odhiambo and Getrude Ochieng. Also, Brother-In-law to Reuben and Joyce Ger (late), Dan Nyanjom (late) and Agnes and Alice Nyanjom,Yunia and James Awuor (late),Tobbit (late) and Hilda Odongo, the late Mary and Timotheo Dawo, Haggai (late) and Esther Kwenda, the late Ruth and Barnabas Otero, Mika (late) and Mary Okumu, Charles (late) and Emma Ouma and Margaret and Job Owuor.
He was also a dear-in-law to Keziah, Julius, Alice, Meshack (all late) and Caleb. Nyawana to Robert and Josephine Andwati, Naftali and Prisca Amos, Gordon and Dorothy Cottrell (all late) and Prof. Bethwell and Hon. Grace (late) Ogot, Prof. Harun and Dr. Anna (late) Mengech, Dr. Samuel and Truphosa (late) Ochola. He was Uncle to many dear nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are meeting on Thursday 27’th April 2023 at 5.00pm at the All Saints Cathedral.
A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at the All Saints Cathedral on Tuesday 2nd May 2023 at 10.00am.
Another memorial service will be held at Pe Hill Church, Mariwa on the Thursday 4th April 2023 starting at 3.00pm.
Mzee will be laid to rest on Friday 5th May 2023 at his home in Mariwa, Awendo starting at 9.00am.
Dear Uncle Samuel
You were one of my best uncles who was always supportive to our family. My late father Constantine would attest to this. Thank you for always being the level headed man you were. You instilled some good values in me and I will always appreciate you. I will miss you dearly. May you rest in peace Baba Christine. We will miss you yawa.
