Dr Jared Odero my elder brother was a very kind hearted soul who gave his all to assist others. My siblings can testify that he assisted each and everyone of us during our college years. He valued higher education, loved current affairs and would discuss local and world politics with ease.He really valued friends and would always mention people who had assisted him in one way or another. May his soul rest in peace. Fare thee well big brother Jaro, Jare, Jaredo, Onyi…till we meet again!

Brother Jared, we weep when God is laughing (Job 9:23).
You came to my rescue when all knew I was doomed. When all believed that nothing good can come from me, you saw the best in me. You developed and nurtured that talent when all distanced themselves. It’s so painful to learn that you are no more, but as long as I live, you shall remain in my heart as ONE sent by God to rescue me.

This email remains my comfort and guide:

      Dear Charles,

CONGRATULATIONS ON FULFILLING YOUR DREAM TO ATTAIN HIGHER EDUCATION. I AM SO PROUD OF YOU AND FOR THE WORK YOU HAVE PRODUCED IN A RECORD TIME DURING YOUR THREE YEARS OF STUDIES AT BUGEMA UNIVERSITY. THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING SO PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY THAT THE ALMIGHTY GOD WILL OPEN MORE DOORS FOR YOU TO MEET FURTHER DREAMS.

I AM TOUCHED BY YOUR GLOWING LETTER TO ME AND NOW UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU HAVE COME FROM. GOD CHOSE THAT YOU WOULD BE GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY TO ACHIEVE WHAT WAS JUST A DREAM AT THAT TIME. YOU NOW HAVE IT!

ONE EDUCATED PERSON AMIDST US MEANS THAT A WHOLE COMMUNITY IS EDUCATED. SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE WITH OTHERS TO UPLIFT THEM. WE HAVE SCORES OF POOR PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY BUT WITH CONCERN, DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT, WE CAN CHANGE THAT. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER AND WHAT YOU HAVE GAINED AT BUGEMA UNIVERSITY IS NOW TRANSFERABLE TO OTHERS THROUGH YOUR PEN AND VOICE.

I ALSO THANK GOD THAT, FROM THE TIME I DEDICATED MYSELF TO SPONSORING YOUR STUDIES, HE HAS ASSISTED ME IN MEETING MY OBLIGATION TO PAY YOUR COLLEGE FEES. IT HAS BEEN ROCKY SOMETIMES, BUT THE END HAS JUSTIFIED THE INITIAL GOAL. WE SHALL CONTINUE TO COLLABORATE AND PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED ON THE WAY FORWARD. MAY GOD BLESS YOU IN YOUR FUTURE GOALS AND GOOD LUCK WITH THE GRADUATION CEREMONY.

      Best regards,

      Brother Jared Odero

      DANIEL 12:2,3.

Dr. Jared Odero was a close and dear friend. We both cared a lot about Kenya and often met to discuss about the socio-economic and political issues in Kenya. We both felt previleged to live in Stockholm, Sweden. For this reason we always thought we could influence development in our mother land towards the social-democratic model that is so successful here. Dr. Odero also cared very deeply about education and I remember he helped a lot of students here in Stockholm, in particular students of immigrant background. I will greatly miss his intellectual fervour and the many times we met in the evenings after work to ponder over many of these issues. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Cousin Dr Jared Onyango Odero, we thank God that we will finally have an opportunity to bid you farewell and rest you in your motherland! It’s unfortunate the Amwata’s have to accept that you are no more, the reality of life!
When you reach heaven, hug and kiss Sir John Owuor Amwata for me. Tell him, his best friend Doro aka mama Flo misses him and will forever adore him both in life and death. His space at our home has remained unfilled since he left! It’s more than a year, but healing has been my biggest struggle!

Jared has been a resource mobilizer and he was true committed in see that as a location we have a training center for all. May his will of having Obunga youth polytechnic come true and be named after him. Tools are there. We only need a structure which he donated through friends.

I’m writing this from North America (I’m originally from Washington, DC). Jared was one of my professor’s at the Stockholm Institute of International Education when I was a graduate student.
    Over time we became friends.

When last I was there but a few years ago, he took me to a social gathering filled with brilliant and successful Kenyan professionals. I was most impressed and thought “These are the so called immigrants from Africa they don’t show usually on nightly TV in Africa”.

He had a quiet confidence, strength, sensitivity. He loved his culture and he respected African women.

My heart is so heavy now.
I only wish he knew how impressed I was by him.

This is a sad day for me and anyone reading this know that this was a man who deserved respect and admiration.

You are lucky to be a family member, former friend, former professional colleague or student of this man.

Rest In Power Friend and Scholar.

    YOU ARE MISSED!
