The family and friends of Hon. Mzee James Etori Iguria wish to announce his death which occurred on Tuesday June 22nd, 2021 while undergoing treatment at Cedar Medical Center In Kitale Town.

James Etori was born in 1936 to the late Evangelist Mzee Ishmael Iguria Itori aka Kirade of ACK Maseno diocese and the late Tata Margaret lbalang’ Mogoria Oyepat aka Tunga/Parapara in Saboti – Dalham Farm. He went to Kitale Union Primary School from 1949 to 1956 before starting his own grocery store and tailoring shop In Kitale and Saboti.

Prior to independence MCC James was the KANU Youth wing leader in Mt. Elgon- Saboti and was instrumental in supporting the Maumau fighters with supplies in the caves. At Independence he happily raised the National flag on Mt Elgon. Mzee James joined active politics in 1963 and became the first African Chairman of Nzoia Area Council in 1964.

Mzee married Mama Tesera Nandwa and together they had 15 children: Agnes Amachilang’ (deceased), Architect Pastor Titus Etori, Thomas Ipapoo (deceased), Moses Otachi (deceased), Paul ljakaa, Sarah Mulama Matara, Simeon Mogoria, Job Otebatukel (deceased), Anne Aprut Karania, Peter Iguria (deceased), Esther Khasoa Longochila, Ezekiel Sanialo Amal, Emmanuel Mukwenyi Ala, Stephen Okisal, and John Omuse. Mzee was blessed with 37 grandchildren and at least 14 great grandchildren.

His body lies at the Mt Elgon Hospital Mortuary – Kitale. His final resting place will be In Cherengani, Suwerwa – Baraka Area, Trans Nzoia County on 29th June, 2021.
