Mama Belina Achando Ochwaya, former headteacher and pioneer of Kharanda Primary School and retired Secretary of the United Society of Friends Women (USFW)

It is with humble acceptance of God’s Will that we announce the promotion to glory of Mama Belina Achando Ochwaya on Tuesday 22nd October 2019 – after bravely battling melanoma cancer which had spread to her brain.

One of the pioneer African students to have joined Alliance Girls High School and former headteacher and pioneer of Kharanda Primary School and retired Secretary of the United Society of Friends Women (USFW).

Devoted wife of retired headteacher Reverend Zablon Ochwaya of the Friends Church (Quakers). Daughter of the late Reverend Christopher Omutuvachi (Church of God) and the late Mama Nerea Omuoma of Bukura, Kakamega.

Mother of Lynn Ochieno (UoN), Rose Ann Sudi (former CO Vihiga County), Simon Makheti (Principal, Wacheka Secondary School), Dr Yvonne Odhiambo (Oxford, UK), Keith Wafula (ICEA Lion, Nairobi) and Dan Wasike (St. Martins Kitinda High School).

Mother-in-law of Robert Ochieno, Gordon Sudi, Priscilla Makhulo, Dr Frank Odhiambo, Violet Muyuka and Ann Wasike. Grandmother of Ambrose, Eugene, Annette, Paul, Douglas, Peter, Linah and others. Great grandmother to Myles-Munro, Myron, Tendai and Aloyo.

Sister of the late Rumona Ochieng’, the late Aggrey Abwalaba, Levi Ashikhuve, Jescah Okwisya, Queeny Truphosa, the late Harold Otuko and Helen Asiko. Sister-in-law of the late Timothy Mukwe, the late. Peresi Namanje, the late William Nyongesa, the late Absalom Opicha and Grace Nasiminyu, Dickson Wanyonyi, the late Andrew Wawire, Mariam Mukana and others; the late Arthur Ochieng’, the late Fridah Abwalaba, Dorcas Ombonya, the late Henry Okwisya, Wycliffe Simiyu, the late Refa Auma and Josephat Wakhutu.

The cottage leaves Life Care Hospital, Bungoma on Thursday 31st October 2019, at 10:00am for a requiem service at her home – Kharanda Village. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday 2nd November 2019 from 10.00am at her home where she will then be laid to rest.
