Maria Awuor Onyango

It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s Will that we announce the passing on of our Mother, Mama Maria Awuor Onyango, which occurred on July 6th, 2022 at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, Kisumu.

Wife of the late Mzee John Onyango Sewe of Alego Kaluo Nandi Village, Nyalgunga Sub-Location of North Alego Location, Siaya County and co-wife to Mama Mary Alice Onyango. Daughter-in-law to Mzee Gabriel Sewe Ogode and Mama Modesta Adhiambo Ogwalla Sewe (all deceased) of Alego Kaluo, Nyalgunga.

Dear mother to George Ogode Onyango (formerly of Ministry of Foreign Affairs -Nairobi), Monica Achieng’ Ogada (Studbook – Nakuru), Dr. Peter Sewe Onyango (Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital -Kisumu), Mr. William Omondi Onyango (Africa Reinsurance – Nairobi) and Caroline Adhiambo Onyango (Nairobi). Mother-in-law to Margaret A. Ogode, Pamela A. Sewe, Ruth A. Sewe, Christine A. Omondi and Walter Ogada.

Grandmother to Beril, Caroline, Robert, Christine and Timothy Ogode, Maurine, Silpher, Beril and Edward Ogada, Mary, Deborah, Betty, John, Vicky and Edward Sewe, Stanley, Gabriel and Teddy Omondi. She leaves behind nine great grandchildren.

The fifth born child among the seven children of the late Mzee Ambrose Ododa Onyiego and the late Mama Hellena Adhiambo Ododa of Alego Urim Village, Ojwando ‘A’ Sub-Location, Central Alego Locaion, Siaya County. Sister to John Awuor Ododa, Rubanus Olwande Ododa, Marcella Anyango Aywer, Andrea Ng’ong’a Ododa, Michael Odhiambo Ododa (all deceased) and Mama Veronica Auma Obillo.

Sister in-law to the late Bertha AJoo Awuor, Getruda Ng’ong’a,Wilfrida Neongla, Paulina Odhiambo and Mary Agnetta Odhiambo. Cousin to Mzee Charles Abong’o Oduga, Mzee Christopher Ochomo and Mzee Charles Ombet Ochomo, among others. Sister-in-law to Dolfina A. Ogutu, Joseph Omondi Sewe Louisa A. Ogolla, Katherina O. Opiyo, Maria A. Oloo, Seline Odawo Omondi, Josphine Anyango Omondi, Joseph Owino Orek, Seline Nyandege Owino (all deceased) and Mama Rosa A.Wambisa, Mama Domtila Obanda and Mama Philister Muruka among others.

The cortege departs from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Morgue on July 22nd 2022 at 10.00am and burial will take place at her home on July 23rd 2022 in Nandi Village, Nyalgunga Sub-Location, North Alego Location, Siaya County.
