Mary Akoth Okech

The Chairperson, Board of Management, Director and members of staff, Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), regret to announce the death of Mary Akoth Okech, who passed away on Sunday 4th February, 2024.

Mary was a member of staff at KEMRI’s Centre for Infectious & Parasitic Diseases Control Research (CIPDER) in Busia.

The late Mary was a beloved daughter of the late Samuel Okech Mboya and the late Mama Orpa Atieno Okech,

Grand-daughter of the late Chief Paul Mboya Akoko and Mama Martha Mwango of Karachuonyo.

She was a dedicated and devoted Mother of the late Jackristo Omollo, Paul Owiyo, Gareet Akeyo Oscar Atieno and a mother-in-law of Joyce, Millicent, Evans Ogunyo, Evans Odhiambo and Peris

She was a grandmother of Ruth, Achibela, Christiano and Liam.

Mary was a sister of the late Owuor, late Sammy, the late Akinyi, Aooko, Amondi, Otieno, Akumu and the late Omondi.

Niece of Ambassador Daniel Mboya and Mama Martha Orinda among others.

The cortege leaves Alupe University Funeral Home on Thursday 15th February, 2024 at 2:00 p.m for an overnight vigil, before funeral and interment on Friday 16th February, 2024 at her home in Angorom Village in Busia County.
