It is with humble acceptance that we announce the passing of our matriarch, Mary Slessor Ochieng’ on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.

Wife of the late Wycliffe Ochieng’ of Nyakach Kisumu.

Daughter of the late Wellington Orwa and the late Selina Sodho Orwa of Gem,Yala.

Loving mother to Lavender Ochieng’ (late); Elwyn Ochieng’; Maureen and James Asiko Owiro; Georgina and Jason Thompson; and Quentin and Lisa Ochieng’. Grandmother of Marrie Yvonne Ochieng’, Kayo Asiko, Sodho Ochieng’ (late), Ochieng’ Asiko, Alessa Ochieng’, Quentin Thompson, Zoraya Ochieng’, Quillan Thompson, Ochieng’ Omondi among others.

Sister of Arthur William Odera (late), Moses Okumu Orwa, Dr. Margaret Ayayo Owuor, Shadrack Abuonji Orwa (late), Japuonj Joseph Abuom, Jennifer Atieno (late), Walter Henry Onyalo (late), Monica Adhiambo Obuya (late), James Aggrey Mboga (late) and David Wanjawa.

In-law to Susan Obonyo, George Seda Aoko, Roselyn Otieno, James Aoko, Frederick Aoko, Godfrey Aoko, Edward Aoko, Rose Atieno, Karen Atieno, Mary Okumu, Gamaliel Owuor, Josephine Orwa, Jackline Abuom, Esther Wanjawa, among others.

Family, relatives and friends are meeting at her home in Ka’Mgan Nyabondo from 3:00pm daily for prayers and funeral arrangements.

The Cortege leaves Aga Khan Hospital Mortuary Kisumu on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 12:00 noon for a Funeral Service at ACK Withur Church Nyabondo at 2:00pm before proceeding for overnight vigil at her home. Mama’s Burial Service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 10:00am at Kabete School prior to her interment at her home in Ka’Mgan Nyabondo, Nyakach Sub County.
