We regret to announce the death of Mzee John Robert Were Mapesa which occurred on Saturday 16th December 2017.

Son of the late Samson Mapesa Okumu and the late Mary Nafuna Mapesa. Husband of Miriam Sayo Were and Imelda Anyanga Were. Father of Dr. Dinah Shisia Were (MMUST Kaimosi Campus),Victor Obanda Were (Likoni Hospital Mombasa), the late Florence Omondi, Anthony Kadima Were, Grace Otieno (St Catherine, Butula), Carolyne Were (CO-OP Bank – Nairobi), Patrick Ndalira Were (KCB Bank – Homabay), Steven Makokha (Nairobi), the late Alex Wamukoya Were, David Shikuku Were, Harrison Nyongesa Were (Mumias Sugar Company), Jackson Were, Donald Luttah  Were (Simba Cement), Edith Nafuna Were Hazel Nelima Were (Senegal Embassy).

Brother of the late Rosebella Nechesa Oliaro, the late Risper Mukolwe Nelima, the late James Ondako Mapesa, Humphrey Nyongesa Mapesa, Gamaliel Barasa Mapesa, Francis Makokha Mapesa, Rosemary Waswa, Grace Nyarotso Butsunzu, Florence Ocheso, Gladys Gomba (USA). Brother-in-law of Roselydah Nyongesa, Phanuel Ocheso, the late Henry Kaibe Mukabi, the late Christopher Butsunzu Obanda, Henry Kadima Wamukoya, Zebedee Mwavali and many more. Uncle of Gerald Ambongo, Japheth Makokha, Douglas Waswa, Paul Musungu, Susan Shitubi, Dr. Paul Nyongesa, Edward Ondako, Joshua Nyongesa, among others. Grandfather and Great-grandfather of many.

The cortege leaves Butula Mortuary on 26th December 2017. The burial will take place on 28th December 2017 at Emalomba village, Elukongo Sub location, Marachi East Location, Butula Sub-county, Busia County.
