Prof Joseph Ouma Muga, distinguished environment scholar and politician famous for his Ozone Layer speech dies

We wish to announce the extraordinary journey and promotion to glory of Prof. Joseph Ouma Muga on 6th September 2018. A principled politician fondly nicknamed Aburu, [preserved seed] and a distinguished academician.

He is a former Makerere University faculty and Founder School of Environmental Studies, Moi University. Credited as the first international initiator of the push for climate action to preserve the ozone layer, he earned Kenya international recognition. His heighted sense of justice and fairness saw him jailed for 10 years for leading a coup attempt in 1970. He was at the forefront in championing the return to multi-party democracy.

Husband of Bernadette Auma Ouma and Eunice Anyango. He is the father of the late Mark, late Luke, the late Alice & Sally, Dr. Anne, Dr. Sarah & Willy, Paul & Gladys, Peter & Violet, the late Andrew, Ronaldo and Aulo.

Son of the late Augustino Muga Aulo & late Tina Ongaro Muga. Brother of the late Eliazar, John and Mary. Brother-in-law of the Janes, Elizabeth, Jemima, the late Sakayo, late Ladislaus, late Maria and Mathias [of mirogi] and the Ogiks.

The cortege leaves Montezuma Funeral Home on Wednesday 26.09.18 at 09.00am for Requiem Mass at Consolata Catholic Church Westlands Nairobi at 10.00a.m. and proceeds to his house In Rongal for vigil.

The cortege will arrive at St Paul’s Catholic Church Homabay on Thursday 27.09.2018 for requiem at 12.30pm.

Burial will take place on Friday 28.09.18 at his home in Godbondo Village, Kanam Sublocation, West Kochia Location, Homabay District
