I met him as a student at Wayne State College in Nebraska. We resided in the same dorm, just 2 doors down, and I knew him then as Humphrey Mwangi. I was involved in the International Relations Club, and was president in 1964-1965 when we honored him at a celebration of “UHURU”, the declaration of Independence for Kenya. He taught me several phrases of one of the languages he spoke, which he called “KIKUYU” He and I became quite close and I lost contact with him in the early 1970’s. I’ll never forget his sense of humor and his desire to please anyone he came in contact with. I’m not surprised that he became a very capable professor in his chosen field of expertise. He would probably have never believed I would become an ordained pastor at the ripe old age of 46.
