It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Maria Wikunza Muteshi, beloved wife of the tate Adrian Gilbert Muteshi.

A devoted and loving mother, she is fondly remembered by her children: Dr. Jacinta & Bruce Strachan, Dr. Betty & Dr Luke Musau, Anastasia & Mumo Mwendwa, John Libibi, Musanga Muteshi, and Musabi Muteshi.

She was a cherished grandmother of Katungulu & Emmanuel Jambo, Kyale Mwendwa, Nzamba Musau, Katanu Musau, and Mubasu Strachan, and a proud great-grandmother of Kalagba Jambo.

Born to the late Snr. Chief Thomas Shitakha and Elizabeth Musabi Shitakha, she was the sister of the late Charles Mabia, the late John Manyonge, the late Francis Wendoh, the late Veronica Mukabana, and the late Rose Lunnalo. She was a dear aunt to many, including Col. Gabriel Anyika, and was loved by many more family members and friends.

Friends and relatives are invited to gather at the family home in Lavington from Thursday, 8th May, through Saturday, 10th May, 2025 and will resume on Monday, 12th May, 2025 and Tuesday, 13th May, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

A requiem mass will be held on Wednesday, 14th May 2025, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Kileleshwa, Nairobi, at 10:00 AM.

The burial will take place on Friday, 16th May 2025, at Malinya, Kakamega.

Her kindness, beauty, wisdom, and unwavering love will forever remain in our hearts.

The cortege leaves Nkubu Mission Hospital funeral Home on 10th May 2025 for the funeral service at Ukuu Methodist Church Uruku, Nkuene Ward, Meru County at 1000hrs and thereafter a private interment at her home in Ukuu.

Daktari was the cherished son of the late Mariko Ambitho and Mama Damar Ogaya, and stepson of the late Rhodah Akinyi, Loice Olumo, and Dorsjla Ogonya. Nephew of Achieng’ Oneko.

He was the loving husband of Selina Adhiambo Ambitho, of Mombasa Hospital, and a proud father of Rose and the late Samuel Sawo, Samson and Rose Akowa, George and Fransisca Odundo, Angela Ambitho, Tina Ambitho (USA), Steven and Linda Ambitho, and Derrick and Sandra Ambitho.

He was son-in-law of the late Ex-Senior Chief Romanus Omuto and the late Mama Justina Ambasa Ogutu of Gwassi, Homa Bay County.

Dr. Ambitho was a brother of the late Wera Ambitho, Rispah Awiti Ooko, Amos Ambitho, Samuel Adino, Mariko Ambitho, Asesa Ambitho, Betha Ambitho, Kwama Ambitho, and Rhodah Nyambuno, and is survived by Ernest Ambitho, Christine Langi (UK), Dorina Nyawanda, Doris Ambitho, Eunice Atieno (UK), Margaret Nyakiro, and Rose Adongo.

He was a treasured cousin of many, including the late Zedekia Nyamweya, Narkiso Nyawade, G.K. Nyawade, William Okalo Odongo, Nicanor Aroko, Henry Odongo, Josiah Okwoyo, Oseya Okwoyo, Wera Akowa, Nyakune Owaso, James Ligawa, Awino Adino, Akelo Adino, Ogalo Adino, George Okwoyo, Jairo Nyawade, Jeconia Ochieng, Martin Wera, and Yuanita Nyagilo, and is survived by Gor Milanya, Hezbone Adino, and Awiti Akowa, Ongonga Achieng, Olola Achieng’, Lwande Oneko and Dick Oneko.

Daktari’s final journey will begin with a requiem mass on Tuesday, 13th May 2025 at 6:30 PM at St. Francis Catholic Church, Nyaie Mombasa. His body will then be flown to Kisumu, and procession to Uyoma will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday, 16th May 2025, followed by a requiem mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Mituri at 3:00 PM. An overnight vigil will be held at his home in Lweya, Uyoma Katweng’a, Rarieda, Siaya County.

He will be laid to rest on Saturday, 17th May 2025.

Until his demise,The Honourable Were was the Member of Parliament for Kasipul Constituency, and the Vice Chairperson of the Committee in charge of National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities in the National Assembly.

He was the son of the late Were Ojaa and the late Pilista Auma of Kachien Location, Kasipul.

He was beloved husband of the late Emmaculate Adhiambo, Margaret Were and Anne Were. Father of Proctor Ojaa, Boyd Were, Pascal Ochieng, Ryan Odhiambo, Emmaculate Were, and Gynsen Were.
