Five Year Anniversary

May 7, 1960 – July 27, 2014

Not a day goes by that we do not whisper your name even as we appreciate that you are with God. We never thought we could go on living when you transitioned to heaven, but we did. We never thought we would survive after burying you, but we did. We never thought we would get through those first days, weeks and months, but we did. We never thought we would be able to endure the first anniversary of your death, but we did. We never thought we would care if the sun shone again, but we do. We never thought we would reconcile your death, but we continue to try. We never thought we would want to go on living after you died, but we do. Always missing you, Always loving you, With a smile on our faces And tears in our hearts!’

In marking this milestone, we have put in place a scholarship programme under the Tony Githuku Ph.D. Foundation to support promising high school students who are exemplary in the STEM subjects as you were and love sports as you did. When we think of identifying and supporting beneficiaries who share your values, we smile and are comforted.

Forever missed by your entire family and large circle of friends.

 In Loving Memory

Papa, it has been five years since you went away, Still we feel your presence so strong as if you were here just yesterday, Your gentleness, kindness and patient smiles we recall today, Your wise words and direction we miss everyday. How hard and bitter it was to part from you on that fateful day, Though our hearts break from missing you day by day, We know you are with us in everything and every way. No one can fill the empty place, we continue your heritage, you can count on us. Till that great day, on that bright morning, Papa, continue to rest in eternal peace.

Remembered today and always by your loving wife, Jane Macharia: Memories that lead me to silence and tears. The secret anniversaries in my heart. Your last wishes I hold dear. Miss you.

Your children, Junior: Papa, I know you are always watching over us. It has been five years since you have been gone, but you are still living through us. I know you are proud of all of us. We promise to shine your light and for sure, I will always represent your principles of hard work and sincerity. Sleep in serenity.

Alex: My dad was and remains my rock and my best friend. It hurts to think that you are not here. I can’t help but smile with tears in my eyes to think of how you lit up my life all through school. I will surely miss you.

Nicole: Time and distance makes it harder, harder for me to accept that you are gone. As the river flows, and the waves rise, I hope, hope that your boat will sail, sail on my shore once more. As I close my eyes and reminisce, the void grows bigger, and the heart weaker. I dearly miss you dad, and I will make you proud. The proudest dad ever! I promise.

John: Papa, you gave me the gift of travel, every time I travel to where we were together, I remember you. Miss you always.

James: Missing you Papa. Baby Wambui: Love you Papa. Baby Wairimu: Hugs Papa.

ISAIAH 25:8 He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, or the LORD has spoken.
