In Loving Memory

Iyoo, I miss you each day. I was young, and still needed you, when you left us on 23rd June, 1988. You taught me to be brave, to confront any obstacle that came my way without fear, saying: “Mochomin chi ibungus.”

I wished you lived to see the grandchildren you loved become adults – Kipruto, Chelagat, Chepkosgey, Chepkurui, Cheptanui, Kiprop and Kibet and that you met your great-grandchildren: Kipng’eno, Kimeli, Kiprono, Wairimu, Chepkoech, Chebet and Muthua.

I cried when you left, and even more when you visited me in my dreams, assuring me that all would be well, even though I was handling a lot in life.

Rest in peace as you await your resurrection. It’s me, Philomena, `toweng’ung’, remembering you 31 years on.

“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have toId you. I go and prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you onto myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
