Lay Canon Naftali Edward Opondo Onyango, HSC
1930 – 2020
On 19 January 2020 Lay Canon Naftali Onyango completed his race on earth.
Mzee Naftali, the last-born son of Matthew Onyango Omar and Susanna Akelo Odora (Oyier Nyar Lang’o) of Bumala, Busia County, was brother to Ezekiel Odhiambo, Nelson Oduor, Peris Achieng, Alfred Ouma and Walter Okumu.
He leaves behind his darling and cherished wife, Mama Dorcas Tabitha Agola Onyango. Father to Imerina and Moses Okeyo; Dunera and Festus Ilako; Lily-Rose Maida; James Awori; Caroline and Godfrey Odipo; Susan and Zach Ngalo; Clare and Chris Kidenda; Harun and Mercy Sigwe; Christine and Nathans Browne; Violet and Peter Ouma-Muga. Joyce Hubbians, Risper and Washington Auma Oriare and Anna Kidandi. He was grandfather and friend to Kevin, Esther, Tabitha, Susan, Jared, Kanyali, Edward, Alesa, Peter, Yvonne, Sharola, Jordan, Sifa, Sraela, Cecil, Tamarah, Sharnel, Kaela, Milagra, Ayira, Bethel and Sulwe Eugene, Paminas, Evertyne. Moshe Dayan, Ezekiel, Hilary, Sarah, Nina, Susan, Ezekiel, David, Chris, Yvonne, Nina,Tanya and Susan. He was blessed to welcome six great- grandchildren. Lay Canon Onyango was son-in-law of James Harun Oduor Oriaro and Rahel Agot of Simenya_ Brother-in-law of Abednego Onyango, Arthur James Oduor, Wellington Oriaro, Olivia Adhiambo Sagimo, and Risper and James Kayila.
The cortege will leave Africa Inuka Hospital, Kisumu on Thursday 30 January 2020 to St. Thomas, Cathedral, Nambale for a celebration service. From Nambale, there will be a viewing at St. Stephen’s ACK Church in Busia followed by a vigil at the family Residence in Bulanda, Busia Town. Burial service and interment will be on Friday 31 January 2020.
To defray hospital expenses and support the family in prayer, there shall be meetings daily at the family residence in Busia and in Nairobi on Tuesday 28 January 2020 for a major funds drive at All Saint’s Cathedral from 5.30pm.
