Mama Margaret Alice Olang’o Adala

1941 – 2023

Mama has rested peacefully.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing on of our beloved mother and matriarch Mama Alice Olang’o on 29th May 2023 at our family home in Kisumu.

She was the second wife of Ker Mzee Fanuel Adala Otuko; and co-wife to the late Mama Margaret Omole Adala.

She was the daughter of the late Elia Otieno Oyoo and Mama Agnes Ayieko of Gem, Ukaya and Stepdaugter to Mama Doris Mulama Otieno and Mama Regina Adhiambo (Nyar Kano).

She was Mother to the late Jomo Adala, Dr. Anne Atieno Adala, John Owimba Adala, Bishop Caroline Oremo, Tom Mboya Adala, Agnes Akinyi Adala, Rosemary Linda May Adala, Pauline Otieno Adala (Arizona, USA).

She was Stepmother to Roselyne Athieno, the late George Ochieng, Alice Adala, Fredrick Opondo Adala, Norah Adala-Otuko (Sweden), Pamela Adhiambo Adala (US), the late Kwame Adala, Belinda Adala (UK), James Otieno Adala (US), and George Ochieng Adala.

She was Sister to the late Felecia Abunge Okeno and Gladys Oluande and Stepsister to Joyce Atieno and Jacob Oyoo Otend. She was Mother-in-law to George Oremo and Noel Openda; she was Sister-in law to Julia Ariya Ombaka, James Olwero Otuko, Norah Olwero, Elijah Sewe Otuko and Truphosa Oloo; Walton Onyango Mayamba of Gem Anyiko and David Shisia Okeno of Dudi.

She was Auntie to Judith Okeno (UK), Karen Okeno (UK) the late Rosemary Okeno, the late Victor Ogwayo Okeno, Isabel Onyango, Dorothy Obare Onyango, (Rtd) Major General. Amb. George Owinoh – Kenya High Commission, Uganda and Allan Argwings Kodhek.

She was Grandmother to Widi Ochieng Oremo, Andrew Ramogi Oremo, Valerie Achieng Oluande, Seby Adala Otuko, Arafa Atieno Adala, Elia Otieno and Patrick Adala.

The body is lying at Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu. A memorial service will be held at Saint Stephen’s Cathedral Milimani, Kisumu on Friday 9th June 2023 at 10:00am. This will be followed by viewing of the body from 1:00-3:oopm at the family home in Kisumu at Mosque Residential Estate House No. 1o.

The cortege will leave Kisumu for Muhoroni at 3:00pm for an overnight vigil at the family rural home in Muhoroni. She will be laid to rest at 03:00pm on Saturday 10th June 2022, at Got Owaga, Koru sub-location, Muhoroni, Kisumu County.
