Doting aunt of Hillary, Tumaini, Watiri, Wamuyu and Jason.

A Memorial Service will take place at All Saints’ Cathedral on 26th June 2025 at 2:00 pm.

The Burial Service will be held on Saturday, 28th June 2025, at Nturukuma Farm, Nanyuki, near Kenya Fibre at 10:30 a.m.

Bishop Gilbert Deya

Bishop Gilbert Deya, one of Kenya’s most controversial clergymen and leader of Gilbert Deya International Ministries, has died in a road accident while on his way home to Bondo.

According to Nyanza region traffic enforcement officer Peter Maina, Deya died in a fatal road accident involving three vehicles at the “Namba Kapiyo” area along the busy Kisian-Bondo road.

At the time of the accident, Deya was driving his Toyota Noah with his wife and another female passenger on board.

According to Officer Maina, Deya lost control of his vehicle and collided with a Moi University bus heading towards Kisumu. The bus, in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision with Deya’s car, overturned, injuring at least 28 students. A Toyota Fortuner from Siaya County, also heading towards Kisumu, was involved in the accident.

“We had a fatal accident at around 6:30 PM involving three vehicles. A Toyota Fortuner of Siaya County Government, a bus and a Toyota Noah at Namba Kapiyo area along Kisian Bondo road,” Maina said.

He added, “The Noah driver lost control of his car and hit the bus. The bus driver attempted to avoid a head-on collision and in the process, it fell. In the accident, we have lost the Noah driver, he was carrying two passengers, his wife and another who has been slightly injured.”

Out of the 31 victims of the Tuesday evening accident, three students sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu, where they were transferred from Kombewa Sub-County Hospital in Seme.

The remaining victims are being treated at Kombewa Sub-County Hospital, with 15 suffering serious injuries.

Bishop Deya’s body was moved to Kombewa Sub-County Hospital by the police, according to the regional traffic boss.

Deya was a controversial Kenyan televangelist who gained notoriety for decades due to his claims of being able to facilitate “miracle babies” through miraculous pregnancies in the wombs of his followers.

He had a long-standing contentious relationship with the government, facing child trafficking charges in court. He often dismissed these charges as a political witch-hunt, citing his close ties with ODM leader Raila Odinga, who was at the time a fierce critic of the government.

He was, however, acquitted of the child trafficking charges by Kenyan courts in 2023 due to lack of evidence.

It is with deep sorrow and acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing on to glory of George Karanja Mwangi on the 14th of June 2025. George hailed from Iganjo sub-location, Kamahuha Location, Makuyu division, Murang’a County, and was a resident of Loresho South in Westlands, Nairobi County. He worked for Kenya Post and Telecommunications and Iganjo Textiles Ltd, River Road.

He was the beloved husband of the late Lucy Nyokabi Karanja.

He was the son of the late Mwangi wa Githete and the late Wamuhu wa Mwangi, step-son of Waithira Mwangi and Njeri Mwangi.

Son-in-law of the late Njuguna Kihogo and the late Victoria Gichira of Makwa Village.

Brother of the late Joseph Kanyutu, late Jane and Cecilia, late Teresa Wanjiku and the late Daniel, late John Gichuru and Michelina, the late Charles Githina and Sabina, and the late Oscar Mungai and Nancy. Step brother of late Karanja Musumeno, Wanjiku Corporaf,Wairirnu, Gichuru,Wathira and Joseph.

He was a devoted father of Susan Karanja and Brig. Bernard Oluoch (KAF), Bernard Njuguna and Teresa Murugi,Victoria Muthusi, Teresa Wanjiku and Elizabeth Ngonyo. He was a grandfather of Njeri, Kate, Kezy, Ashley, Augustine, Angeline, Karen, Robert, Eric, and Michael, and a great-grandfather of Seleiyan.

Daily meetings are at his home in Loresho South, Nairobi and Iganjo home, Muranga County from 5:00 pm.

The cortege leaves K.U. Funeral home, on Thika Road on Friday, 20th June 2025, at 8:30 am, for St Peter’s Catholic Church, Igikiro, Kamahuha Location. Mass will begin at 11:30 am, and thereafter, burial at his home at Igikiro.

Sammy Muasya Muathe (Aka Kithetheesyo)

We are deeply saddened and accept God’s will as we announce the passing of Sammy Muasya Muathe (Aka Kithetheesyo), who was a well-known businessman in Machakos Town. He passed away on the 10th June, 2025, at Machakos Level S Hospital after a courageously fought long illness.

He was the son of late Muathe Kilelo and late Mueni Muathe. Son in law of late Kaniu and late Alice Kalekye.

Husband of Beatrice Kasiva Muasya, a retired teacher. Father of Ndunge Muasya (Stanbic Bank), Kilelo, Ndanu (Machakos School for the Physically Handicapped), Muthini, Wavinya, Mutinda, Ndinda, late Nduku, and late Mwikya.

Grandfather and Great grandfather of Alex Mutua, Keziah Mwongeli, Kasiva, Mutanu, Ester, Ndunge amongst others.

Beloved brother of late Kikuvi, Kalondu Ndambuki, late William Kimongo (Councilor), Pastor Simon Mwaluko, late Philip Muathe, and Geoffrey Muathe (Retired Police Commissioner).

Dr. Maasai Lekipaika

It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the untimely passing on of Dr Maasai Lekipaika on Tuesday, 10th June, 2025. Until his demise, Dr. Maasai was the Deputy Director of Human Capital at the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).

He was the beloved husband of Teresia Lekipaika, cherished father of Daphine Lekipaika, Mathias Lekipaika, Santamo Lekipaika and Lerionka Lekipaika.

He was the son of the late Kisiito Lekipaika and the late Kiremishoi Lekipaika, brother of Nailetiai Lentirwa, Namuundi Lengoitei, Koitangei Lemuli, the late Nadengele Lemoti, the late Tongoine Lemuli, Lemaatany Lekipaika, Lantan Lekipaika and Salao Lekipaika.

The late Dr. Maasai was a dedicated public servant, mentor, confidant and friend to many. He lived a full, eventful and joyous life.

The cortege will leave Montezuma Funeral home Nairobi on Saturday 21st June, 2025 for a funeral service at his home in Longewan, Samburu County starting from 10:00 a.m.

Priscah Jepkemboi Chepkwony

It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing on of our beloved matriarch, Priscah Jepkemboi Chepkwony, which occurred on 8th June 2025 at Siloam Hospital, Kericho.

She was the loving wife of the late Joseph Kipruto Mitei. A devoted mother of Joyce Chelagat, the late Timon Kipleting, Lt. Col. japheth Rutto, Joachim Rutto, Edwin Rutto, Dickson Rutto and the late Laban Kemboi.

She was a beloved mother-in-law of Stephen Kipkut, Caroline Cherotich, Caroline Chelimo, Rinny Chepchumba and Edith Chepchirchir.

Priscah was the cherished daughter of the late Kipchirchir Kemei and the late Hellen Cherono Kemeiof Lolkeringet, Nandi County. She was a loving sister of Samwel Chirchir, the late Janet Singoei, Sally Rugut and Naum Koech.

She was also a proud grandmother of Stacy, Tracy, jasmine, Emmanuel, Egan, Elvin, Eldon, Mercy, Malon, Marksen, Maxwel, Marvin, Elisha, Ezra, Elsie, Dylan and Dahlia.

The cortege leaves Life Care Hospital Mortuary, Eldoret, on Thursday, 19th June 2025 at 1:00 PM for her home in Lelboinet—Ngechek, Nandi County.

The funeral service and burial will take place on Friday, 20th June 2025, at her home in Lelboinet—Ngechek, Nandi County, starting at 9:00 AM, where she will be laid to rest thereafter.

 

Dr Peter Kalung’e Ekabu (PhD)

12th December 1965 – 7th June 2025

It is with humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing on of Dr Peter Kalung’e Ekabu (PhD) on 7th June 2025 after a short illness bravely borne.

The son of the Francis M’Ekabu M’Laing’omara and Sabina Kambura M’Ekabu.

Loving husband of Mrs. Janet Gakii Ekabu. Devoted father of Joy Nkirote, Martin Maingi and Daphine Mukami.

Brother of Marcela, Lucy, Kanana, Silveria, Karoki and Karimi.

He was father-in-law of Dennis Kaimenyi and grandfather of Bernice Mwendwa and Gabriel Mutugi. He was a loving uncle to many.
