Beloved mother of Ruth Mbatha-Oughton, Francis ltumo Mbatha & Pauline Mbatha, Eunice Wanza Kuria, Moses Mbatha, David Mbatha & Jackie Ngare and grandmother of Sophie, Kevin, Matthew, Diane and Natasha.

She was sister of, Magdalena Mbaika Ngumbi (of Makindu). Deacon Nelson Kimuluu, Rebecca Mbulwa Kinyingi and the late Agnes Mwati Kyengo. She was a cousin, aunt and friend to many.

She was the devoted wife of the late David Lutaaya Kivumbi of Katikamu, Uganda and a cherished mother of Michael Mitanda and Michelle Lunkuse. She was mother-in-law of Veronicah Khatundi and grandmother of Miles Mitanda and Dahlia Mitanda.

Dr. Irene was a sister of Henry Ochieng, Margaret Omolo, Dan Olewe (late), David Omondi (late), Penina Misore and Ben Ochieng (late).

She was sister-in-law of Lucas Omolo, George Misore, Dinah Otieno, Dorcas Olewe, Lilian Owino, Sam Ssembatya, Ruth Najemba, Smock Kivumbi, the late Dan Kivumbi (late) and Rose Kivumbi (late). She was an aunt and mentor to many.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, 13th October 2025, from 2:00 p.m. at All Saints’ Cathedral, Nairobi.

His body will be collected from Aga Khan Mortuary on Thursday, 16th October 2025, at 12 noon. A requiem mass will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Kanyakwar from Friday, after which the body will be taken to his home for overnight vigil.

Burial will take place on 2.30pm, 17th October 2025, officiated by the Rev Father in-charge St. Paul’s Catholic Church, supported by St. Paul’s Church choir, CMA and CWA. The funeral service will be held at Uzima Universiry grounds–off Mamboleo Junction (On Kisumu-Kakamega road).
