Joyce passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday the 28th of September 2025, after a long illness bravely borne.

It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that we have learned of the passing of Hon. Elijah Lagat, former Member of Parliament for Chesumei Constituency and a celebrated national hero.

Former two-term Chesumei MP and celebrated marathoner Elijah Kiptarbei Lagat has died while undergoing treatment at the Eldoret Hospital.

The 2000 Boston Marathon winner and retired long-distance runner passed away on Tuesday, marking the end of a distinguished career in both athletics and public service.

Lagat, who first came to global prominence after his stunning win at the Boston Marathon, was among Kenya’s most decorated marathoners in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

He represented the country in multiple international competitions, cementing Kenya’s reputation as a powerhouse in distance running.

Following his athletic career, Lagat transitioned into politics and was twice elected as a Member of Parliament for Chesumei Constituency.

During his tenure in Parliament, he was praised for championing dialogue and inclusivity while representing his constituents.

Lagat’s death has been received with shock across the sporting and political fraternity, with many remembering him as a man who bridged two worlds, sports and leadership, with equal passion.

Professor Arthur Obel, a Kenyan scientist hailed as a pioneer in the search for an AIDS cure and the discoverer of the drug Pearl Omega, has passed AWAY, he was 76.
Obel received many honoraries. He was a member of the Global Epidemiology Society in 1983 and the Achievers Society in 1983. Obel did a fellowship with numerous institutions including the Jewish Chemists Federation in 1986, the International Diabetes Federation in 1986, and the Global Pharmaceutical Federation in 1987. He was also a Project Management Professional (PMP) with the Centre for Finance and Project Management in 2004

Although Obel is most known for his work on Kemron and Pearl Omega, a big part of Dr. Obel’s research consisted of practical therapeutics. He has numerous published works including practical therapeutics on antibiotic therapy, the use of insulin, the use of anti-diabetic agents, the treatment of gout, the treatment of peptic ulcersanxiolytic drugs, and the therapy of diarrhoeal diseases.[4]

Obel also wrote, and self-published, numerous books such as “Power and Intrigue,” a book relating to one’s power, whether it be associative, personal, professional, or reward power, “Kenya’s Industrialization Strategy,” and “Resilient Manhood Dynamism: The Basis of a Rapid Take-off.”
