We, the family of the late Joseph Daniel Otiende, thank the Almighty God for the gift of Mzee, and for His Grace throughout the period of his illness and demise. We also wish to extend our sincere appreciation to friends, colleagues and extended family for standing with us during his illness and supporting us to give Mzee a befitting send-off. Special thanks go to His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta, for the comforting message and support to the family.

We also thank the Head of the Public Service, Mr Joseph Kinyua, the Principal Secretary of Interior, Dr Karanja Kibicho, and the Vihiga County Commissioner. Our special thanks also go to former Prime Minister, Hon. Raila Odinga, and former Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon Kenneth Marende, who were the first dignitaries to visit Mzee in hospital, and for their support to the family. Our sincere appreciation to Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, Hon. Moses Wetang’ula, Hon. George Khaniri, Hon. Bonny Khalwale, Hon. Yusuf Chanzu, who not only visited Mzee in hospital, but also supported the funeral committees.

We also thank Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga and his officers for standing with the family during Mzee’s illness and throughout the funeral period. Special gratitude to the PS, State Department of Livestock, Dr Andrew Tuimur, and colleagues from the Ministry. To Mzee’s steadfast comrades in the Luhya Council of Elders, who stood with him throughout his illness and supported the family following his demise, goes our deep appreciation.

Our sincere gratitude also goes to the Friends Church, especially at Kegoye and Luduguyu; the Principal, staff and students of Kegoye Secondary School; and the entire Kegoye community. We were tremendously touched by the Alliance Old Boys’ Association, and the school choir and band, who traveled all the way to give their ‘old boy’ and teacher a befitting farewell. Thank you too, to the Members of Parliament who supported the family in cash and kind, as well as the Former Parliamentarians Association.

May the Lord uphold you and comfort you in your hour of need. To the doctors and medical staff who attended to Mzee, your work was not in vain. Special thanks to the Wasanji and in-laws from Viyalo, Kisatiru, Kitale, Kabras, Meru, and Bushiangala.

We also thank Mzee’s in-laws, who came on behalf of the Ganiras, Akatsas, M’bwayas, Otungas, Ashibendes, Mwanjes and Bulibas. Special thanks to the two funeral committees in Nairobi and Kegoye and their two chairmen, and Hon. Andrew Ligale for his outstanding role during the funeral.

Finally, special thanks to Mzee’s grandchildren and their colleagues and friends, who worked late into the night to set up the venue, and attended the guests.

It’s with humble acceptance that we announce the death of Fred Malachi Lesakale born on 26th August 1962 to Lpono Lesakale and Ann Lesakale.

He was the only brother of Selina Lenkees.

Husband of Franca Lesakale, and Claudia Lesakale. They were blessed with four children, Nabulu Lesakale, Losheunye Lesakale, Lobaru Lesakale, and Lojaru Lesakale.

He worked at Asante Africa Foundation up to the time of his death. He passed away on Friday 7th April 2017 at Nairobi West Hospital.

Burial committees are meeting at his home in Wamba, and at Maralal Samburu Guest House at 5pm daily.

His body will be laid to rest on Saturday 15th April 2017 at his home in Wamba.

Loving husband to Elizabeth Mazido Bora and father to Emily and Rachel Bora. Brother of Mary Mwakai (KNBS), Laban Njomba (Nairobi), Esther Mwakaba (Mombasa) and Mercy Kilemeko (Diani).
