Rusinga Island Progressive Initiatives (RIPI) regrets to announce the death of Deputy Chair Professor Thomas Tony Mboya Onyango of Technical University of Kenya, which occurred on September 30th 2025 at Kakrigu Village, Rusinga Island after a brutal murder.

He was the beloved son of Mzee Wilson Onyango Opanga and Mama Priscilla Auma Onyango both of Kakrigu Village, Rusinga Island

Husband of Dina Atieno Mboya of Kiriri Women’s University of Science and Technology. Loving father of Yvonne Akinyi Mboya and Victor Onyango Mboya.

Brother of Jacob Otieno of Fallon Logistics Ltd (Mombasa), Julius Nyerere (Mombasa), Mark Onyango, George Oburu of Southern Shipping Engineering (Mombasa), Daniel Wasonga, Kennedy Omondi, Jael Awino, Beryl Akinyi, Jacky, Nelson Mandela, the late Sabiano Chacha, the late Antony Okeyo, the late Jacob Omuga, the late Millicent Adhiambo. Cousin of Zephania Aura.

Uncle of Fred Okeyo Apollo, Nephew of Opiata Ogada. Michael Oimo, Solomon Oburu, Wajumbe Oburu, Peter Oburu among others. He was a brother-in-law of Judith Mokora, Ruth Nyambwanda, Vivian Akinyi, Elsa Chacha, Gladys Nyerere, Lilian Abiero, Pamela. Esther, Joyce, Roselyne, Christine, Felix, Godfrey, Abraham, Joseph, Salome, and the late Elly and Arthur, among others.

Family, friends, and well-wishers are meeting daily at the family Residence in Tuala, Oloosikon as from 4:00PM for prayers and funeral arrangements.

Main fundraising to offset funeral expenses will be held on Tuesday, October 21st, 2025 from 4:00PM at Nairobi Central SDA Church.

Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, October 22. 2025 at SDA Church Laiser Hill as from 10:00AM. The cortege leaves Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home on Thursday. October 23rd 2025 at 7:00AM for Kakrigu Village, Rusinga Island where the funeral service will be held, followed by burial on October 24th 2025 at his home in Kakrigu Village, Waware South Sub-Location, Suba North Sub-County, Rusinga Island.
