M’Kobia and the late Marion Wanja. Daughter-in-law of the late
Archbishop Nathan Mukunga and the late Rebecca Mukunga.
Sister of Kithinji, Muthuri, Kiambi, the late Mwirigi, the late Muriungi and
Mutai. Mother-in-law of Mwende Kathurima, Jackie Kimathi and Michael
Kiarie. Sister-in-law of Elizabeth, Ruth, the late Esther, John, Salome, Julia,
Geldrine, Edith and Margaret.
Prayers and funeral arrangements are being held daily at St. Peters
Methodist Church Lang’ata. A memorial service will be held on Thursday,
3rd December 2009 at 2.30pm at the same Church.
The cortege leaves Lee Funeral home on Saturday, 5th December, 2009
at 6:00am for a church service at Muthangene Methodist Church- Meru
and thereafter burial at their home in Muchicha Village – Kithaku.

William Ronkorua ole Ntimama

February 1930 – September 2, 2016

 

Former minister and Maasai supremo Williamole Ntimama is dead.

The 86-year-old vocal Maasai leader is said to have died of natural causes in his Melili home in Narok county on Thursday night.

Family sources who spoke to the Star said Ntimama was in a jovial mood the whole day and was not in pain.

“Ntimama was scheduled to conduct a fundraising in aid of women in Olchorro area,” the source said.

“He had invited former senate aspirant Andrew ole Sunkuli to assist him in the harambee and that why he decided to spend his day in his Melili home.”

Area police boss Abdi Galgalo said Ntimama’s body will be taken to the Lee Funeral Home.

Ntimama was the Narok North MP for 25 years before he retired from politics on September 14, 2013.

He also served as a minister in former President Mwai Kibaki’s government.

The long-time chairman of the Narok County Council made a grand entry to parliamentary politics by ousting the then powerful minister in the Office of the President Justus Kantet ole Tipis in 1988 and became retired President Daniel Arap Moi’s stalwart in Maasai land.

In 2002, he joined Narc and successfully defended his seat.

In 2005, he mobilised his community to reject the then Wako Draft under the controversial Suswa Declaration.

Soon after Ntimama was defeated by the incumbent Narok North MP Moitalel ole Kenta, he announced his retirement after vying on ODM ticket.

One month ago, he led the Maasai community to State House and announced he has joined the Jubilee Party.

He has since been pushing for Narok and Laikipia leaders to join the Jubilee Party.

In 2014, Ntimama expressed regret for not supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2013 general elections.

He had backed ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Isaiah Kiplagat

Veteran athletics administrator Isaiah Kiplagat who has died aged 72 used the force of his character to raise the then lowly Kenya Amateur Athletics Association into a national sporting force.
He swooped into office in 1992, beating then chairman Paul Boit in an election at the Nyayo Stadium. As a well placed secretary general he had quitely canvassed delegates to vote in a new era.
Many in the athletics circles considered him a dictator incapable of taking in an alternative view.
Though his feudal approach alienated many, his vision and ruthless approach would raise athletics standards that won him praise even among his ideological opposites.
In the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, China, the national athletics squad made history by taking seven golds, six silver and three bronze. This type of results worked to silence his critics. Allegations of corruption were quickly ignored or swept under the carpet.
But poor heath for the past seven years slowed down his zeal.
Soon the gathering storm of corruption and looking the other way while Kenyan athletes embraced doping as a means to win races took its toll. He would be hounded out of office together with his long secretary general David Okeyo and treasurer Joseph Kinyua after a suspension.
Kiplagat was elected five times as chairman unopposed even though each time an election loomed, his shrill rivals would mount an effort that would be scattered in the final weeks.
But calls for his resignation intensified in 2013 after a push by 14 of the 16 Athletics Kenya branches demanding a change of guard.
With his health in bad shape, but his fighting spirit in full swing, he appointed Lt General (rtd) as caretaker boss as he set about campaigning for arrange a camapign for the seat of vice chairman on the IAAF, the world athletics governing body. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful.
One of his major rivals former marathoner Moses Tanui mourned Kiplagat and acknowledged that Kiplagat was the cornerstone of AK.
