Somaya Sobhy Mina

1st Anniversary

 12/4/50 – 7/11/16

Somaya, it has been one year since you left us to be with the Lord. Our hearts still long for you and our eyes still ill with tears. We watched you peacefully slip away with unshakable faith and great joy to be with Jesus and the saints whom you loved. You were a loving and dedicated wife, mother, doctor and grandmother. You were behind our greatest successes and happiness.

You selflessly gave of all what you had and of yourself in a way that inspired all those around you. Your life was a blessing to us all, the place you left cannot be filled. We will always miss your presence and your beautiful smiles, but you are in our hearts forever and we feel your spirit always near to us.

Somaya is the wife to Dr. Safwat Andrawes. Mother to Mary, Joseph and Andrew, and mother-in-law to Joshua and Jeanette. We extend our deepest gratitude to the friends who came, called and prayed for us. We treasure your friendship. We especially thank the Coptic Church in Kenya.

We will commemorate her life in the Coptic Church on Ngong road on Sunday 5th of November between 4-6 pm.

On behalf of the entire El-Maawy & Jahadhmy families we wish to extend our sincere appreciation to the President & his Government & all the Friends and well wishers for the love and support through the testing time of Mariam’s treatment & her eventual demise.

As a President HE Uhuru Kenyatta exuded to us his humility with his personal attentiveness towards her care. We believe that this has embedded our Presidents unquestionable commitment to his team and to the level of regard he has for the people of Lamu. A leaders quality is also shown by the quality of his team. We give special thanks to the COS Dr Joseph Kinyua for being a pillar of support with his exemplary humility and professionalism , the CS of Foreign Affairs Ms Amina Mohamed & CS Mr. Najib Balala for their personal touch with the family, Mariams CS Mr J. Macharia & her fellow PS Prof. PM Maringa and not least all the other PS and staff who gravitated their support around PS All Ismail, PS Zainab Hussein, PS Mwanamaka and PS Fatuma Hirsi. Mariam could not have wished for a better set of colleagues, for the love and support that they have shown for her.

A special thanks goes to the Min of Foreign Affairs senior staff & the Protocol team in Nairobi coordinated by Amb.Tom Amolo, and the High Commission in South Africa led by Amb Jean Kamau for their exemplary teamwork that made us thankful to be Kenyans.

Last but not least we thank all the people and friends who came out to support us who touched her life and whose lives she touched. Mariam had a life beyond family and work and the decision to bury her in Nairobi was informed by the realization that she grew to belong to Lamu people and many more beyond.
