To Gichuru’s family – My family joins yours in mourning the loss of a beloved brother, father and uncle. You are in our hearts and prayers.
Gichuru will be missed by all who had an opportunity to share any time with him. I was lucky to have had him as a cousin, a classmate at Thirime Primary, Kikuyu Boys Intermediate and Dagoretti High, but most of all as a good friend and confidant.
In all the many years that we shared in our youth, Gichuru was always known for his even temperament. His smile was always reassuring to those around him. His instinctive sense of fairness, kindness, good judgement and trust earned him respect from entire student bodies and teachers of every school we attended. You all have every reason to be proud of the way he conducted his life – with dignity and integrity, a true gentleman.
At Dagoretti, him and I shared a dinky room for four quality years which I remember with fondness. I only hope he got a chance to tell his own kids about the years at Dagorreti High – the challenging but endearing life which prepared us to deal with future adversities. About the “band of brothers” that was comprised of him, Rueben Koigi, Waithaka Wachaiyu, Kenneth Mwathi and me. I’m certain each of these guys took Gichuru’s death hard. He was, and still remains one of us.
May God bless his soul as he rests in eternal peace.
