Everyone I encountered in January 1983 after my “A” level results fell short of securing me a spot in a local Institution of higher learning said I should accept the fact that I am not “University material.” Well, not quite everyone. My Aunt Frieda Ayienga Radido did not buy into this narrative. She arranged for me to re-take my “A” level exams as a “private candidate” that same year. She had me live with her in Ukwala to personally make sure I was studying. This time round I got two Principle passes and two subsidiary passes, paving way for admission to Kagumo Teacher’s College where I graduated with Diploma in Education. I taught at Lodwar Boys High School before emigrating to Canada. May my Aunt’s soul rest in eternal peace.
