Joseph Daniel Otiende

It is with humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the demise of our father Joseph Daniel Otiende on 8th March 2017.

Mzee Otiende was Kenya’s pioneer Minister of Education and served in the Cabinet from Independence to 1969.

Son of the late Daniel Akero and the late Abigael Iranji of Kegoye. Husband of the late Martha Avoga. Father of Mabel Ebagole, the late Gilbert Kaiga, the late Aggrey Machayo, the late Richard Mulindi, Arthur Chunguli, Yuanita Assava, Grace Chinda, Edith Kithinji and Winfred Makotsi. Father-in-law of the late Ernest Ebagole, the late Rose Nthenya, the late Cecilia Kananu, Norah Jayuga, Jane Injaga, Aggrey Assava, Elijah Chindia, the late Dr Ayub Kithinji and Brown Makotsi. Brother of the late Leah Ganira, Bilha Akatsa, the late Selina Otunga, Lenah Ashibende, the late Shuah M’mbwaya, Beatrice Mwanje and Joyce Buliba. Grandfather of more than 400 grandchildren and great grandfather of many.

Preparatory meetings are being held at the United Kenya Club beginning 5pm in Nairobi and at Kegoye in Maragoli.

A harambee to support the family, led by political leaders from the Western Region will be held on Monday 13th March 2017 at the United Kenya Club beginning 5.00pm. Friends and well wishers are welcome.
