It is with profound sorrow and acceptance that the KivaI family announces the passing on of our Family Patriarch Mzee Joseph Kivai Mbindyo Muketo at Ruai Family Hospital, Nairobi on Sunday, 12th April 2026 after a long illness,

Husband of Elizabeth Munyiva Katundu Kivai and son of the late Mbindyo Muketo and Ndumi Makau. Father of Juliana Kamanthe, DoMitila Mueni (Retired Teacher – Kiteng’ei Comprehensive School), Richard Kyalo (Retired Officer – Sahamu Assurance), Jacinta Mwikali (Teacher – Mbotela Comprehensive School), Georgiadis Mboya (Lecturer – South Eastern Kenya University) and Dr. Stanislaus Mutinda (Senior Research Scientist – Kenya Institute of Primate Research).

Father-in-law of the late Fransisca Nduku, Adelaide Mboya (Muthingiini Boys High School), Jennifer Katumbi (IRC-Kenya), Judith Musimbi, Christopher Mwania and Francis Mbai (Retired teacher).

Grandfather of Minoo, Mwende, Ndunge, Mutindi, Muthwii, Ndanu, Nthemba, Joshua, Philliph, Ndendwa, Mueni, Ngina, Mbindyo, Keli, Mwongela, Muoki, Mbinya, Mutua, Mutinda, Mbinya, Mutheu, Mwongeli, Muthoki, Munee, Kalekye, and Sila. Great-grandfather of Dominic, Gift, Fidelcastle, Nafla, Amara, Poshia, Mercy, Ndambuki, Esther, Roselyn, Getrude, Pascalia, Leo, Joyce, Angela, and Patient.

Brother of late; Musyoki Mbindyo, Mwanthi Mbindyo, Kilonzo Mbindyo, Muswii Mbindyo, Mutheo Mbindyo and Kanovi Mbindyo.

Brother in-law of Alice Kimwele and late; Nzomo Munywoki and Nthatu Munyoki and many others.

The cortege leaves Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home, Nairobi on Friday 24th April 2026 for Burial Mass Service at his home the same day at NzoilaVillage, Nzoila Sub-location, Mtito andei Ward, Kambu Sub-county, Kibwezi East Constituency, Makueni County.
