Mzee Ndung’u Njau
1937 – 2026
It is with humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing of Mzee Ndung’u Njau, who peacefully went to be with the Lord on 10th July 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in 1937 in MinjaVillage, Kaniai Sublocation, Githunguri Division (now Githunguri Sub-County),. Kiambu District, Mzee Ndung’u was the son of the late Josephat Njau Macau and the late Philis Gathoni Njau, and stepson of the late Priscilla Wanjiku Njau.
Beloved husband of Lydia Njambi Ndung’u and Alice Njeri Ndung’u. Devoted father of Eng. David Muigai Ndung’u (Dave Auto Spares), the late Philis Gathoni Ndung’u, MilkaWanjiru lnjairu (KasaraniTVC),the late Dr. Josephat Njau Ndung’u, Joseph Njau Ndung’u, Philis Gathoni Ndung’u (Office of the Deputy President) and Simon Mwai Ndung’u (Kiambu National Polytechnic).
Cherished father-in-law of Esther Wambui Muigai (Hadassah Ventures), Rev. Joel Injairu (Kahawa West Baptist Church) and P.j. Kuriah (Scope Design Systems).
Adored grandfather of Eng. John Ndung’u Njau, Lydia Njambi, Stella Muthoni, Milka Wanjiru, John Macau (Qatar), Ann Wangu, Robert Lubamo (Murang’a University), Lydia Njambi (Pangani Girls), Robert Bamo (KBA School), James Ndung’u, John Ndung’u, Shanice Njeri Kuriah (Woodcreek School), Arthur James Mwangi Kuriah (Rusinga School) and Ava Theresa Waihuini Kuriah, and a proud great-grandfather to many.
Loving brother of the late Douglas Muiruri, Esther Njeri (Naivasha), the late Julius VVainaina, the late Mary Wairimu Kimani, the late Grace Nyambura, the late Amos Njuguna, Esther Wanjiku Leysianto, the late Mary Wangui Ndichu; and stepbrother of John Mwengi Njau (Subuida), Hezekia Waiguru Njau (Naivasha), Julius Miira (Miira Contractor), among others.
Funeral meetings are being held at his homes in Kanjuku, Githunguri and Karatina, Nyeri, and in Nairobi at All Saints Cathedral, St John’s Hall, daily from 5.00 p.m.
The cortege will leave Lee Funeral Home on Tuesday 21st July, 2026 at 7.30 a.m followed by Funeral Service at Miiri Primary School, Githunguri at 10 am. The deceased will be interred at his ancestral home in Minja village Kanjai, Githinguri.
