There will be a fund raising on Wednesday, 15th February, 2017 at 4pm at Sirikwa Hotel to offset funeral expenses. The body will be removed from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary on Thursday, 16th February, 2017 at 8.30 a.m.

A requiem mass will take place on the same day at 10.00 am at St. Mathews ACK Church, Eldoret. Burial will take place on Saturday 18th February, 2017 at Majengo Village, Mwamba sub location in Lumakanda.

Another funeral service will be held at ACK St Paul’s Ugolwe on Friday 17th February 2017 at noon. The cortege leaves Umash Mortuary on Thursday at 2pm for her residence for an overnight vigil from 7.30pm. On Friday, the body leaves for Nyakach, Gem-Rae. Burial will be on Saturday, 18th February at her homestead.

Cyrus Mwangi Wainaina (Karumi)

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing on of our Dad Cyrus Mwangi Wainaina (Karumi).

Son of the late Bernard Cege and the late Marion Nyakinyua. Husband of the late Agnes Wanjiru Mwangi, father of Catherine and Crispin Okinyi, Michael Maina, Rose Nyambura, Thomas & Anne Njoroge and Anne Waithira. The elder brother of James Cege and Hanna Waithira, half-brother of Kimemia, Maina, Waithira, Mwihaki, Wanjiru, Kimani, Nyagiko, Wambui Gacheru. A doting grandfather of Ryan, Roy, Claire, Cyril & Karumi and an uncle of Boniface Mungai among others.

Friends and family are meeting daily at his home in Section Nine Thika. The cortege leaves Bishop Okoye Funeral Home Thika on 15/02/2017 at 9am followed by a requiem mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church Thika at 10am. Daughter of he late Reuben Muriuki Kihuha and the late Tabitha Wambui Muriuki (both of Giagathi). Mother of Sophie Wambui, Brian Muriuki, Andrew Wachira, Esther Kirigo and Moses Kabocha. Sister of the late Esther Kirigo, Jackson Kihuha, the late Eliah Ngima Kaguamba, Loise Wangari Magondu, Ann Waguthi Ndegwa and Amos Muriithi. Cousin of Timothy Munuhe and Rahab Wanjiru Thimbui among others and Aunty to the Ndegwas, Kaguambas, Magondus, Kihuhas, Muriithis. She was “Aunty Gakenia” of many other people to whom she had no relation whatsoever. She was an institution.

Prayer meetings will take place at her home in Karen on 14th & 15th February 2017 at 4pm while the funeral service is scheduled for 10am at Karen PCEA Church on Saturday 18th February 2017. Internment at her Ngong Farm will follow thereafter.

Aunty Gakenia will be fondly remembered as a loving, doting mother and fiercely loyal and protective friend.
