Celebrating the Life of a True Companion of Jesus

The Eastern African Province of the Society of Jesus prays in thanksgiving for the life of Fr Stanislaus Mascarenha, SJ whom the Lord called to his eternal dwelling on Easter Sunday, 16th April 2017 in Chennai, India, where he had been since the end of February this year for treatment.

Fr Stan, as he was popularly known, first came to Eastern Africa in 1969. He taught in Kibosho and Ntungamo Major Seminaries in Tanzania until 1971.

He then went to his doctoral studies in Canada and returned to Africa in the 1980s and taught in the major seminary in Malawi, and at the Catholic Institute of West Africa, before coming back to Eastern Africa where he taught at the Apostles of Jesus Seminary in Lang’ata.

He dedicated his life to the education, spiritual and pastoral ministry of the people of God within Nairobi. He was also a member of the Nairobi Music Society. Fr Stan died at 82 years of age.

He was a Jesuit 65 years and a priest for 51 year. The Memorial Mass will take place at Mwangaza Jesuit Spiritually Centre in Karen on Saturday, 22nd April, 2017 at 10am. May he rest in eternal peace!

The funeral service will be held on Friday 21 April 2017, at the A.C.K. Mombasa Memorial Cathedral at 1pm.

The body will then be taken to the Mupe residence for an overnight vigil. Prayers will be held at the home at 11am on Saturday 22 April 2017, followed by the burial ceremony which will be held at the Mbaraki Cemetery at 2pm.

A fundraiser will be held at the All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi, on 12th April 2017 from 5pm. A family mass will be held at 6.30pm on 11th April 2017 at the home in Ongata Rongai.

It is with humble acceptance that God loved Joel Ng’ang’a and decided to take him home to Him. Your memories will forever remain in our minds for you were a blessing. We admit that we shall miss you, although we know that you are in a better and happier place.

He was the son of the late Joseph Kangari and Sarah Wangari Kang’ari. He was the brother of James Muhu Kang’ari, Timothy Kamau Kang’ari and Sally Elsie Mweru Kang’ari. Joel Ng’ang’a Kang’ari received his education and graduated from Mount Kenya Senior School Academy.

Burial day shall be on Thursday 20th April 2017 at Muhuri Road, Kagodo, Dagorreti South.
