A Kenyan family is seeking help in raising cash to assist them repatriate the body of their kin who drowned in a South Carolina river back to Kenya.

Fred Ochieng Babu, 35, passed away on June 18th 2017 after accidentally drowning in Congaree River, South Carolina.

He was swimming near the Gervais Street when he became distressed and went missing around 11am.

At the time of the accident, Babu was with three other swimmers when they were overwhelmed currents.

One of the swimmers got to some nearby rocks while the other two were helped by a person who was nearby and had noticed they were in trouble.

Babu however went under water and was not seen again until he was retrieved by a search team, boats and a helicopter.

Babu has left a young daughter and as you can imagine, the family is grieving and have a long journey ahead.

Their immediate need is to have his remains repatriated from Columbia, South Carolina to his final resting place in Kenya.

Funeral expenses are only the beginning for his family.

She was also a treasured cousin, sister-in-law, aunt and friend of many.
